5 Ways to Naturally Enhance Your Beauty

Sophia S. Mark
Natural beauty remedies should be your first option when looking for something to enhance your appearance. Too often we head to the drug store to deal with everyday beauty issues, from puffy eyes to less-than-white teeth to brittle nails. Several of the chemical-based remedies do offer results quickly, but they may not always be the best option and sometimes provide other beauty problems with long-term or over-use.

There are natural ways to enhance you beauty and improve the appearance of your skin, hair and nails. Here are some of my favorite natural beauty tips and how to use them.

For Split Cuticles
One of my biggest complaints, and that of my friends, is ragged cuticles that split around the nail causing hangnails. This common beauty problem is caused by a lack of moisture in the area around your nails, most often from washing, cleaning and using household chemicals without gloves. Instead of using artificial moisturizers that will improve the appearance of your fingers for a couple days but not really improve the health of your nails try using an all natural cuticle softener and moisturizer.

Soak your nails in water and then mix together a teaspoon of both olive oil and Vitamin E oil that you can rub into your nails around the cuticle. Trim back the skin that is now soft instead of hard. Mix together one teaspoon of natural clay, one teaspoon of olive oil and one teaspoon of honey. Once you have trimmed your cuticles pat your fingers dry and then rub the moisturizing mixture into your fingers. Rinse off any reside and dry.

For Puffy Eyes
There are so many reasons for puffy eyes, most of the time I get them from a late night out on the town complete with plenty of fried and salty foods. If you are not suffering from permanent puffy eyes, the problem can be taken care of with several simple natural remedies. Most spa treatments include the usual cucumber slices on the eyes to help deal with swelling, but recently the benefits of green tea have been touted in spas.

Combining the two treatments works great, a tip I got from my last spa visit, and it can't hurt. Brew a pot of green tea and then chill. Slice a few slices of cucumber for your eyes and place them in the green tea to soak, keep both chilled. Add the cucumber slices to your eyes and sit back and relax.

For a Dull Complexion
Sometimes all your face needs is a good scrubbing to improve your complexion. If a fresh and rosy appearance is what you are after the remedy is really simple. To make your own natural face scrub, mix one part olive oil and one part sugar. Apply the mixture to your face in a circular motion making sure to scrub it into your skin, rinse off with warm water.

For Dry Hair
Dry hair does not look attractive, and anyone who has a dry hair problem is probably looking for a quick way to treat it. Most artificial conditioners give your hair a bit of moisture right away after applying but the results are often not very long lasting. Here is a great natural remedy that I like to use and even grow myself using rosemary leaves. Add half a cup of dried or fresh rosemary leaves to half a cup of olive oil in a pan and heat on high. Strain the leaves out of the oil and allow it to cool off some, work hot oil into your hair especially the ends. Wrap hair onto the top of your head an pu ton a shower cap for fifteen minutes. Rinse off hair.

For Hair Removal
Hair removal is something that I have spent more money than I care to admit on. But in the last year I have switched from using sprays and creams to natural sugar treatments to remove hair. After spending even more money on natural sugar treatments I figured out how to make my own and it is super easy and cheap to do.

In a pan, add a quarter cup of honey to one cup of sugar and squeeze half a lemon into the mixture. Keep the heat at medium and stir the entire time as the mixture gets stickier, once it begins boiling it is ready. Remove from heat and allow it to cool down enough to handle. Using an applicator spread a layer of the sugar scrub in the same direction as your hair grows, before it cools apply a clean cotton strip over the sugar and press down with your palm. In one quick motion pull the srip off in the opposite direction that you applied the sugar mix.
