5 Ways to Reduce Stress and Eliminate Anxiety

Megan Heyer
When we're stressed, our thinking capabilities are affected, decision level reduces and blood pressure increases. But there are five simple ways in which the stress can be reduced. They are briefly explained here.

When in stress, cortisol which is a stress hormone produced by the adrenal glands causes increase in Blood Pressure and reduces immune response. There are simple and natural ways in which the stress can be reduced. The methods are explained here:

* Berries: Vitamin 'C' helps reduces the excess cortisol. This reduction helps to counter the stress. Berries and Orange are good source of Vitamin 'C'. The Carbs present in Berries, slowly converts itself into sugar. Therefore, it does not cause sudden increase in blood sugar level.

* Guacamole: Stress causes depletion of vitamin 'B'. Loss of vitamin 'B' affects the nerves and brain cell. Vitamin 'B' is a stress vitamin and proper supplementation of this vitamin reduces the effects of stress. Guacamole which is procured from the Avocado fruit is rich in Vitamin 'B' will help in reducing the stress.

* Breathe: Brain requires 25% of the oxygen we inhale. When in stress, the body gets insufficient oxygen and at the same time the discharge of carbon monoxide also reduces. Insufficient oxygen affects the proper functioning of the brain and therefore it affects the decision level, particularly when in stress.

To overcome this problem practice to breath from the abdomen and this is also called as 'deep breathing'. To understand how we normally breathe, put one hand on the chest and the other on the abdomen. Take a deep breath and observe the movement of the hand. If the hand on the chest moves more, then it is shallow breathing. It is an indication that the body is not getting sufficient oxygen. To overcome this problem, start to breathe from the abdomen. This will ensure supply of sufficient oxygen to the body. Do this regularly.

o Take the day off: Keep a day free from all engagements. That is your day and do not allow any one to intervene in your day of relaxation. Tell yourself that the day belong to 'ME', in short be a lazy on that day. At the end of the day, the mind becomes clear and that tremendously enhances decision making level.

o Take a walk with positive affirmations: When in stress, take a walk and make firm affirmations for yourself. Repeat the affirmations again and again. The example of affirmation is 'Each and every day, I am getting better, in every way' or any appropriately worded affirmation. If possible, say the affirmations loudly. This lifts up the spirit and enhances the decision level and reduces stress.
