- Don't drink or do drugs
If you are not 21 or over you should not be drinking at all. If you're going to drink however make sure to not over drink. Drink less than everyone else or just have something light that doesn't contain too much alcohol as this could impair your judgment and therefore putting your life in danger. Don't do drugs either. Sometimes it's not easy to say no to someone who's offering drugs to you because you may be teased, but you will learn that if you want to stay safe the best thing you can do is stay away from drugs and alcohol.
- Stay close to your friends
If you are going to a class, to the dining hall, to the library, to a party, or to any other place make sure to have your friends close by. You don't want to be out wondering places without having someone that you know around as this is a huge risk. Make sure to keep yourself and your friends safe by pairing up when you're going out.
- Don't take anything at all from anyone
If you're at a place that isn't your home then you should not take anything that's given to you by anyone else. This is very important for you to remember when you go to parties. Don't' ever take a drink that's been opened and that is being brought to you by someone else. If you're thirsty and you don't' drink carry a small bottle of water in your purse or go get a drink from the cooler but make sure that it's closed and that no one ever has access to it because they might put drugs in your drink to get you to do things you shouldn't be doing.
- Always have a safe and guaranteed ride home
If you want to always be safe then you should make sure that you always have a ride home; by someone who is a good condition to take you home. Don't get in a car with your drunk friends or with anyone that you don't' know and trust. If you don't' have a way home call the school police department and they'll give you a ride there. You should also find out about designated driver companies around your campus.
- Carry identification
If you are ever out of your home you should always have some sort of identification with you. This might seem like something that's not important, but you should never underestimate the sorts of things that can happen. It would be smart to also carry with you emergency phone numbers and some spare change for public telephones.
- Don't leave with someone without notifying a friend or someone else some details
If you are going to leave a party or if you're going out on a date make sure that you tell someone else where you're going, who you're going with and at what time you think you will be back home. You can also hand them your parents phone numbers just in case something happens. This is a very good precaution that you should take at all times. It's important that if you want to be safe for people to always know where you're at.
