5 Wine Pairings for Both Beginners and Experts

Rachel Heller
Food is an essential part of our culture. In fact, many great ideas and deals are formed over a good meal. Most meals also come with a robust glass of wine. Food and wine go great together. There are people who go to school to learn how to pair the right foods and wines together in order to achieve culinary masterpieces. I am just starting to enjoy wine; however, I am trying to push my culinary knowledge into the wine arena. Therefore, I am going to attempt to pair different wines with different foods. There will be five timeless pairings that will be good for wine virgins. There will also be five wine pairings that could be viewed as daring. There is even wines that you can drink with Doritos and Twinkies.

1. Fino Sherry: Almonds are a timeless pairing with this type of sherry. If you are a bit more daring then, pair goat cheese with this wine. I like goat cheese; therefore, I would drink fino sherry with either a Greek salad or a lemon chicken salad.

2. Rich Chardonnay: This rich wine calls for a rich food to go with it. Lobster fits the bill nicely. However, if you are more adventurous then, why not pair a delicious a spicy leg of lamb with it. Lamb and chardonnay sound like my cup of tea.

3. California Pinot Noir: This wine would be perfect for Thanksgiving. This is because it can be paired with turkey, roast duck, and pheasant. This robust wine also is good for snack lovers because it can be paired with Doritos. It seems as if salt and cheese compliments this wine. I eat Doritos all the time; therefore, California pinot noir will be the wine of choice when I eat them with dinner.

4. Amarone: This wine is amorous for short ribs. In addition, if this wine wants to show off its wild side then, it likes to be paired up with Parmesan cheese with honey. Therefore, this wine might work with a spaghetti sauce that is topped off with Parmesan cheese drizzled with just a bit of honey. Moreover, this wine could love being paired with Twinkies too.

5. Champagne: This royal drink needs to be paired with caviar. However, it also is good with scrambled eggs and black truffles. I love to marinade a barbecue steak. Champagne and steak is an oddly perfect match.

Food is an important part of any culture. People love to talk and laugh over a delicious plate of food. They also like to drink wine with food too. There is a wine to go with any type of food. However, it is hard to pair wine with food from time to time. There are timeless food and wine pairings and there are more adventurous food and wine pairings. The bottom line is that food and wine are the perfect match. source: Food and Wine, April, 2010
