5. Amityville 3D (Amityville III: The Demon) was released in 1983 and directed by Richard Fleischer. This movie stars Tony Roberts, Tess Harper, Robert Joy, blah blah - other people and Meg Ryan. The movie revolves around the infamous house in Amityville, Long Island which was said to be haunted. A skeptical reporter comes to live in the house to prove it's a fake only to find he's not alone. The reason I picked this movie should be obvious but I'll state it just the same - 3D flies. Come on!
4. Jaws 3D was released in 1983 and directed by Joe Alves. Starring Dennis Quaid, Louis Gossett Jr., and Lea Thompson, this movie tries to scare us with slow moving objects. Here's what happens - Baby shark breaks into SeaWorld and people start dying. People catch baby shark but it's not really the baby shark that's guilty. Giant momma shark broke in also and she's mad and hungry. The ending, another exploding shark head, is predictable.
3. Coraline starring the voices of Dakota Fanning, Keith David, Teri Hatcher and Jennifer Saunders was released in 2009 and was directed by Henry Selick. Coraline finds a doorway into an alternate universe similar to hers and what she believes to be a better life. Coraline finally realizes what she's missing back home and must try anything to get back to it. This movie uses 3D in a subtle way but is much too similar to the type of movies Tim Burton makes.
2. Spy Kids 3D: Game Over was released in 2003 and was written and directed by Robert Rodriguez. Some of the actors in this movie are Antonio Banderas, Carla Gugino, Alexa Vega, Daryl Sabara, Ricardo Montalban, Sylvester Stallone and Selma Hayek. Vega's character Carmen is trapped in a video game created by the Toymaker (Stallone) who seeks revenge on her grandfather, Montalban. This movie just went over the top with flying objects into your face.
1. The Nightmare Before Christmas originally released in 1993 was released using 3D technology in 2006. This stop animation movie stars the voice talent of Chris Sarandon, Catherine O'Hara, William Hickey and Ken Page. From the demented mind of Tim Burton we find Jack Skellington traveling through a portal from "Halloween Town" into "Christmas Town" for the sole purpose of taking over Santa's job. Using the only thing he knows, Jack gives gifts with Halloween themes that don't go over so well. This movie indulges Tim Burton's ego and his work is over-rated.
