5 Worst Trendy Baby Names for Boys

Tanja Meece
Naming babies today requires a special trip to the grocery store for the latest scandal magazines and the ability to spell backwards, or at the very least, changing the spelling of the desired name. It seems as though parents have been opting for celebrities' names forever, but now they are also choosing to use the names of celebrities' children.

I am no exception to the rule; I named my sons after my favorite actor and rock star at the time, way back in the 80's, Sean and Ian. My parents were far more creative when they christened me with a Russian name, Tanja, during the Cold War era. In the Social Security Administration's annual list of the top baby names none of these names scored in the top ten preferred names for either sex. This is probably a good thing as no one ever spells our names correctly.
The current trends in names for boys include names that rhyme with "maiden", such as Britney Spears' son Jayden, naming them after crafts, Fletcher and Wheeler exemplify this trend, and metaphysical beliefs and concepts, the names Sincere and Messiah are excellent examples.

These are all trends I can relate with, well maybe Messiah is a little extreme, and I'm all for traditional names, but when it comes to the five worst trendy names for boys today's celebrities are raising the bar when it comes to weird choices in baby names. Here is my list of the worst of the trendy names for boys, and all have been provided by celebrities.

Bronx Mowgli (favored by Ashlee Simpson and Peter Wentz)
Moxie Crimefighter (Penn Jillette's preference)
Pirate and Pilot (names chosen by Jonathan Davis and Jason Lee respectively)

Completing this list is my absolute least favorite boys' name, Sparrow. This is the name Nicole Richie and Joel Madden chose for their new baby boy.

Future schoolyard bullies are rejoicing in their cribs and playpens all over the world. These parents should begin stockpiling supplies for the rough roads their sons will be traveling in the days and years, and bullies, laying ahead of them.
