5-Year-Old Boy in Maryland Accused of Sexual Harassment

Let Children Be Children

dogslife11
In Maryland, a 5-year old boy was written up for sexual harassment because he pinched a girl on the bottom. According to the state, 28 kindergarten students were suspended for sex offenses last year - 15 of those suspensions for sexual harassment.

The father of the boy was told he should "explain" what his son did so it wouldn't happen again. The father said his son knows nothing about sex, so what he did was not sexual. How can you explain to a 5-year old what sexual harassment is? A spokeswoman for the school said this should be a "learning experience" for the boy. A learning experience for what? Neither him, nor the girl he pinched knows anything about sex, nor should they. In fact, they couldn't even comprehend it. How about just teaching the boy that it's not nice to pinch? That's what they used to tell us when we were that age.

When I hear stories like this one, or schools that are banning dogeball and tag, I wonder who are these people running our schools? Weren't they children once too? I feel sorry for kids growing up today because everyone is so uptight, and everything is regulated.

Inevitably, politics comes into the mind when addressing these issues. This isn't a 'liberal' or 'conservative' issue. Americans are too quick to take each other to court if they think they can get something out of it. The school may have just been covering themselves in case the little girls parents raised a fuss about it. The problem is, we're adults here - and children shouldn't be subjected to our squabbling. A 5-year old doesn't deserve a write up for sexual harassment because the school is afraid of sue-happy parents.

The sexual harassment charge will remain on the boys record til he enters middle school. That should be totally unacceptable to the father and I hope he fights this. There is a simple solution which doesn't even take a half a brain to figure out... Once you enter middle school, or junior high, you can be subject to a sexual harassment charge. But for children who have yet to reach puberty, or even come close to it, they should be dealt with in a way that doesn't lead to a conversation about sexual advances.

  • Once you reach 13, or enter high school, you can be subject to a sexual harassment charge. But for children who have yet to reach puberty, or even come close to it, should simply be told to keep their hands to themselves.

(By that last comment, I meant that for the people who claimed sexual harassment not the little boy.)

Goddamn it. Stupid fucktards. They don't even know what sex IS.

Great article. I worry about when my son starts school next year. He is a very lovable little boy and wants to kiss everyone. I'm so scared he's going to get in trouble for it when he starts school. But, he doesn't understand why he can't give someone a kiss. It's very innocent.

I recently put published an AC article on a similar situation, this one with a 4 year old boy accused of sexually harassing his teacher! It's crazy I tell you. My 4-year-old daughter was kissing the boys a few months ago, and I was terrified of what people were going to say about it. It's sad that we live in such a repressive and paranoid culture, one where kids can't even enjoy innocent acts of affection and play.

The spokeswoman for that school is a dumbazz! She can't believe that was really sexual harrassment. Maybe she had it out for the father, who knows. What is our world come to? Great story AJ, good job.

I just feel so fortunate because I'm barely in my mid 20s, and even when I was in grade school it wasn't so PC and regulated as it is now. This just makes me feel sorry for younger kids today, it's like you aren't allowed to even be a kid anymore.

Great article A.J. I heard about this but honestly wondered if it was a joke. Guess I should have know that it wasn't. How warped is today's society when children can't be children. I worry every day what my grandson will encounter in public school. My daughter and I have already agreed that at first sight of trouble, we will homeschool him or figure some way to send him to a private school. I just won't have a bright, beautiful little mind scarred for life by ignorant, stupid, adults who have no idea what they are doing. Thanks so much for writing this piece. Excellent!!!

Ha, I didn't even think of that...good one. At least the kid probably has no idea what's going on, but I just can't believe school officials are this stupid.

lol, you've got to be kidding me. That is absolutely absurd. I believe what's even funnier is that the sexual harassment offense is going to be on his record til middle school? Maybe 1 or 2 of those kids know about sex from bad parenting, but what is that offense on his record going to do in elementary school. Heck, most boys I know at that age don't really like girls anyways.

Oh wow I am absolutely appalled by this article. How ridiculous, to say the least. Surprising to me? NO. Not this day and time. A little 6 yr old friend of my daughter's said that she watches her Mom and Dad have sex. That floored me. What are we as parents allowing our children to know? This is molestation of the mind. Thanks for sharing this. May God bless this man and his innocent little boy.
