I am not one for making New Year's Resolutions. But as this New Year approaches, I realize that there are a few resolutions that I need and actually want to make. My most important New Year's Resolutions mean paying attention to my health and making some changes, from what I eat to how I treat myself.
Making organics ordinary. Our grocery list includes more organics each time we shop. We are trying to make sure to at the very least avoid the "dirty 15." My New Year's resolution is to make organics more ordinary in our household, and to incorporate more local produce as well as gluten free products. Let's start our healthy changes from the inside out and it benefits the whole family.
See the world. I wear glasses, and while they help I admit that it has been far too long since I have had my eyes checked. I squint. I get headaches and sometimes at night I just ask my husband to drive, even when I know the directions better. Between an astigmatism and a great deal of time spent looking at a computer screen, as well as getting a few years older I know that taking time for that checkup and a new pair of glasses can help me see life a whole lot better and brighter.
Think Pink! My age is just one factor, but my health history is another when it comes to being checked for breast cancer. I admit that my excuses in the past was that I was "too young," or "there's no breast cancer history in my family" and the very valid ones of being pregnant. However, those excuses are just that and after a case of stage 4 breast cancer hit very close to home in our family my determination to be more consistent with my self-exams and to schedule a mammogram has become a New Year's resolution and a priority.
Freak the fibro out. I have had fibromyalgia for many years. It's painful and exhausting and I am tired of being tired. With several years of pregnancy right in a row, treatment was out of the question and honestly I was tired of the drugs and injections. I wanted break. I've tried what I could, but now it's time to freak the fibro out so I can spend more time with my young children and have more energy when I am with them.
I like to move it move it. With the fibromyalgia there are limits to the exercise that I can do. But I have found that yoga can be very helpful. I'm making the resolution to stand, stretch and move more throughout the day and hopefully it will chase the muscle stiffness away.
It's time to take a stand and make my health a priority. I have four children, two of them young and active that need mom around. I plan on being there.
