It's not the first time that rappers have expressed their resentment that Oprah doesn't want to represent on her show. After Ludacris, Ice Cube and 50 Cent complained about her in June 2006, Oprah broke out her Ipod to prove that she listened to hip hop, and she stated that she has no beef with the hip hop community. At the same time, she let it be known that she doesn't like any music that glorifies violence, uses bad language and denigrates women. Oprah is certainly not going to even seem to endorse anything that demeans women. Her message is one of empowerment.
Oprah's charitable causes are known all over the globe. A 1997 episode of Oprah's show asked viewers to try to make a difference in the lives of others. This led to the creation of Oprah's Angel Network in 1998. This charitable organization has since raised more than $50 million that has been donated to non-profit organizations all over the world.
To get some input from regular people on this topic, I interviewed a middle-aged white woman named Nancy and a middle-aged black woman named Tonya, to find out how they feel about Oprah's show and 50 Cent's criticism.
Hello, Ladies. I'd like to ask you some questions to get your opinion on 50 Cent's nefarious comments about Oprah Winfrey. Y'all both know who 50 Cent is, right?
Nancy: Yes, I've heard of him. He's a rap artist.
Tonya: Yes, he is.
50 Cent says that Oprah caters to middle-aged white woman, and he called her an "Oreo." He has said that Oprah audience is his audience's parents. He said and I quote "She started out with black women's views but has been catering to middle-aged white American women's views for so long that she's become one herself." Do you agree with any of his statements?
Tonya: I agree that she caters to middle-aged women and that her audience is his audience's parents. It's an afternoon talk show. Who does he expect her audience to be?
Nancy: Yes, it's a afternoon talk show. I work.
Tonya: I work too.
So y'all don't watch Oprah?
Nancy: I watch it once in a while, when she has someone or a topic I'm interested in. The last one I watched was when she had Jim McGreevy, the first gay governor on there. I thought his wife was going to be on, but it was his boyfriend. He cried when he told everyone how nice McGreevy is.
Tonya: I don't watch her much either, but they do repeat her show at night . The last one I watched was when she told everyone what bra size she wore and the best jeans for your figure. It was funny. Oprah was touching practically everyone's breasts.
So neither one of you are really big fans of her show?
Tonya: I used to watch her show a lot, but I got sick of it. Even before the Book Club.
Nancy: I watched her a lot in the beginning. When she got really big, it got to be like a cult.
Tonya: Success went to her head. She started bragging on her money.
She gives a lot of her money to charity, isn't that true? Do you not admire her desire to help make the world a better place?
Tonya: No, I don't admire her. I might if she didn't name everything she starts after herself. Oprah's Angel Network, Oprah's Leadership School. Oprah's Book Club. Oprah Oprah Oprah. I heard she's even going to have a boutique on her website. Oprah's Boutique. What in the world does she need to be selling online?
Nancy: I think she flaunts her wealth and celebrity, too.
Tonya: I'm a Christian woman. To be charitable, maybe she started out that way to set a good example, but it's gone way beyond that now.
So do you think that 50 Cent is justified in his criticisms of Oprah Winfrey?
Nancy: Well, I guess he has a right to express his opinion on Winfrey or whatever.
Tonya: I think I would have to see the whole article before I could say. How it came up and why 50 Cent was doing an interview in Elle Magazine in the first place. Isn't that a magazine that caters to rich white women?
It's a fashion mag, that's all I know, but it's probably a good idea to see the whole article. Well, here's one more question - do you think that Oprah should invite 50 Cent on her show?
Nancy: No, I don't see why she should. Like I said, he's entitled to his opinion, but she doesn't have to prove anything to him.
Tonya: But it would be interesting to see if he had the nerve to say she's become a middle aged white woman to her face, or would he back down.
If Oprah did have him on her show, would you watch it?
Tonya: I might to see if Oprah can turn him into 25 cent.
Nancy: Or a dime. Seriously, I don't think so. I'm just not that much into talk shows. Not every middle age woman's world revolves around talk shows.
Tonya: Amen to that!
Thank you for your time, ladies.
That wraps up our interview. Would you watch Oprah if she invited 50 Cent on and he agreed to appear?

Post a CommentOprah has some serious skills, is much older than 50 Cent and is more worldly than he is and most certainly better read. What could 50 Cent add to her show, and what defense could he honestly give for his comments and stance towards her? At the same time, she can't really help him out anyway because he doesn't put anything out that her fans or even their children would really listen to. 50 Cent has succeeded in getting people to notice him that probably would not anyway, such as yourself. That's really all he was after to begin with.
I don't like 50 or Oprah. But 50 has some valid criticisms of Oprah; it is how I always felt about her and how a lot of other people feel about Oprah, they just do not express these views, they do not have any reason to. It seems like Christian woman you interviewed was more genuine than Oprah was. Who really cares about her charity, figure how much money Oprah really has and how much she says that she gives away, assuming that she does tell the world every time she does help someone out. Then figure out how much other people give away. Also, why does everyone need to know when Oprah does give someone something, it is as though her camp is trying to legitimize what she does otherwise, a shell game if you ask me.
I would watch Oprah if he was on but what I didn't understand is if you admit that you did not read the whole article or was suggesting to the subjects that they read the whole article? The interview had a tone of your taking 50's side simply because he was against Oprah and it was as if you weren't really that interested in their views to begin with.
I used to watch Oprah when I was a stay-at-home Mom. I love the fact that she gives of herself and her money to not just the USA but the entire world. It proves that her heart is endless. It is also one of the better role models we have today. She names everything after herself just like plenty before her. Think of Carnegie Hall for example. No one seems to have knocked that effort or donation. Why because a Man did it. Perhaps Oprah remembers that she is not immortal and wants her legacies to be remembered when she is gone like so many others before her. I used to respect 50 Cent for his accomplishments to date, but this makes me take it down a notch. Oprah has a right to who she invites on Her Show. Thanks for another great article and more knowledge I hadn't been privy to!
50 cent better not mess with Oprah. It will be worse then the time he got shot! Like you said oprah caters to that age group because of the time in the afternoon her show airs
