50 Cent & Kanye West: New Albums Go Head to Head on 9/11

50 Cent the Queen's native has his album being pushed back from September 4th to September 11th, also Kanye West the Chicago native had his album pushed backed from August 21st to September 11th, the same date as 50 Cent.

50 Cent doesn't think Def Jam Records headed by Jay-Z will let Kanye West drop his album on the same date and go head to head with the rap icon. Who will come out on top the sound scan? Will It Be 50 Cents album entitled "Curtis" or will it be Kanye West's album entitled "Graduation"? Both icons are very popular amongst mainstream hip-hop fans and underground hip-hop fans, but if history has proved anything 50 Cent will come out on top of this battle. 50 Cent was quoted in saying "There's no way Def Jam will let him drop on the same day as me, that's like committing suicide, do they want to lose money". He does certainly have a point, most people aren't going to go out and spend almost 40 dollars at once on 2 CD's. When people walk into their local music store they are going to most likely have to make a decision on whom they want more, thus taking an album sale away from the other hip-hop icon.

Kanye West recently responded to 50 Cent's comments on him coming out the same day as him and he stated "I'd rather come out on a day like that, up against 50 - where people are excited about going to the stores and it's an event and people talk about it - and be #2 on that day rather than come out and be #1 on a day nobody cares about," West said. "It's about things going down in history. It's not that much exciting stuff in hip-hop right now. I think people are going to make it more than what I'm making it myself. At the end of the day, I'm making music and I'm trying to sell." www.mtv.com/news/articles/1565385/20070723/west_kanye.jhtml

Kanye is totally right about it being a good thing to be coming out the same day as 50 Cent. Rarely do you go to the store and have a chance to buy 2 really good artists album that just came out on the same day. It's usually one good artist and a bunch of albums nobody would spend their hard earned paycheck on, for once people will have a big choice to make on whom to select.

As for myself, I'm going to just purchase both albums and support the genre I have liked since the 80's and that's hip-hop.
