2. Clean out that garage, basement, attic, spare room, or shed.
3. Give yourself plenty of time to get ready.
4. Ask family members & neighbors to join you.
5. You might go to other yard sales and garage sale to see what works and doesn't work.
6. Start gathering things and price as you go!
8. As you find items to sell, make sure everything is in clean and good working order.
9. If it's broke or un-repairable, throw it out! If it's dirty, wash it!
10. Make repairs to clothing and or press and hang on hangers.
11. Check the ordinances in your city to see if you need a permit.
12. Choose a date and decide how many days you want to run it.
13. Choose a start time and don't be late.
14. When pricing your merchandise, think of prices you would like to see if you were shopping at a garage sale.
15. Make sure you have a tagging system like a different color ticket for each member participating.
16. Mark your prices large and clear on each tag with a medium line marker or pen.
17. Do not use markers directly on merchandise. This can ruin items and usually doesn't come off.
18. Make sure you indicate if an item requires batteries or if there is a minor fixable problem but it still works.
19. Decide how many tables you will need and borrow from family, friends and neighbors.
20. Make sure you have the following items ready for the day of the sale; note pad or paper for figuring and for placing price stickers on after sale, pens, calculator, money box or better yet, a fanny pack or carpenter's apron.
21. If you plan to sell adult clothing, figure out what you'll use to hang up the clothes and borrow any needed supplies. Good ideas for hanging clothes are a portable clothing rack, a broomstick or shower curtain rod between 2 high ladders.
22. Start collecting bags and boxes to pack merchandise in, along with newspaper for breakables. You'll need plenty the day of your sale.
23.. Advertising can be word of mouth, flyers, signage and newspaper advertisements.
24. Before preparing signs to post around the neighborhood, check your local ordinances again.
25. Use large thick cardboard in bright colors or corrogated cardboard cut from boxes and a thick black marker to make your letters.
