50 Years after Roswell, New Evidence, Testimony Shed Light on UFO Mystery

Former Army Air Officer Admits the Truth

Ranger
You probably know the story well: On the 14th of June, 1947, after a powerful thunderstorm in the desert, a rancher, William "Mac" Brazel noticed some strange debris while working on the Foster ranch near Roswell, New Mexico. He does the right thing, what any American would do. He loads some of the debris in his pickup truck, and takes the stuff into town, and shows the sheriff. The Army Air Force is called in, teams of heavy equipment and troops scour the site. A press release is given to the public by Lieutenant Walter Haut, the public relations officer at the Roswell Air base in 1947, and the sensational news is broadcast around the world: The United States military is in possession of a crashed flying saucer.

The next day, another story is released: Sorry, we have made a mistake. The debris is only the remains of a weather balloon. This "corrected" story was pretty much what the nation accepted, until UFO researchers such as Don Schmitt revived the cold case in the 1970's. Calls from the public, for the United States Government to release more information, reached a crescendo during the Clinton Administration. A new search of old records produced a new version of the facts involving "Project Mogul" a top secret project to use high altitude balloons to monitor Russian nuclear tests. Also thrown into the new version were records of test dummies, dropped from high altitude to test parachutes and flight suits. The public was told that a combination of top secret research, real accidents, and confused memories had combined with a public imagination stoked by Hollywood UFO fever, to concoct a modern folk legend, that had a basis in fact, but was complete fantasy.

Credible UFO researchers, such as Stanton T. Friedman, continue to assert that the Government is in possession of downed alien spacecraft. Friedman's major contribution to the debate consists of the Magic 12 papers, and analysis of same. The Magic 12 documents are Top Secret United States Government Papers, of apocryphal origin, that detail the crash, and government attempts to manage the spacecraft and extra-terrestrial life. Another military witness who claimed to know that the Roswell incident involved the crash of an alien spacecraft is Colonel Philip J. Corso, a former staff worker in the Senate office of Jesse Helms, who claimed his job was to pass technology from the craft recovered at Roswell to American companies. In his book, "Day After Roswell," Corso reveals that technologies such as stealth technology, Kevlar body armor, lasers, night vision goggles, and the integrated micro-circuit chip, have been "reverse engineered" from alien devices found at the Roswell crash. Corso died of a heart attack shortly after the release of his book, and video interviews.

Corso's story has support from a number researchers and witnesses, such as the one time Canadian Minister of Defense, Paul Hellyer, who has confirmed the alien spacecraft story as true when he investigated them within the government. According to a story from the June 30th online magazine "thisisLondon," Haut's affidavit refers to a staff meeting with Commander of the Eighth Army Air Force, Gen. Roger Ramey, and Col. William Blanchard. At this meeting, pieces of wreckage were on display for other officers to see and touch. No one present could identify the material. Haut claims that due to the rancher's knowledge of the first crash, a cover story was needed to cover up a second crash site which was unknown to the public. This second crash was more intact, and contained alien bodies. Haut also testified that for months afterward, military teams sifted both debris fields, searching for all relics and evidence, removing them and erasing all signs that an extra-terrestrial vehicle had crashed.

In the affidavit, Mr. Haut admits to participating in the cover-up. He actually saw the alien spacecraft and extra-terrestrial life forms. Mr. Haut was careful to never admit to any of these facts in his life (but he came very close). His life was unalterably changed. He gave strict instructions that his affidavit remained sealed for one year after his death. The release of this confession, on the 60th anniversary of the Roswell UFO crash, could not have been better timed for effect.

This week is a huge one for Roswell, New Mexico. The anniversary of the fabled crash is an annual celebration. One of the sponsors of the Celebration is the Roswell International UFO Museum and Research Center, of which Walter Haut was a founder. According the to Museum Deputy Director, Sandy James, the full affidavit will be released on July 5th, in a new book by Don Schmitt. The affidavit was prepared with assistance from Walter Haut's daughter. Walter Haut's deathbed affidavit will not end the debate about what happened in Roswell those weeks in the Summer of 1947, but no one can dispute that Walter was a central figure in one of the twentieth century's greatest mysteries, and now, his final statements, which pierce his lifelong vow of secrecy, cannot be excluded from the historical record.

Great article! I feel that the government owes it to us to tell the truth. I for one feel that it is far more unbelievable that we are the only intelligent beings alive in the whole universe.

Good point, Bob P. Why does the government continue to deny what so many know or believe to be true-UFO's do exist and we have been visited. We're not a bunch of screaming meemies who can't handle the truth & it belittles us to be treated that way by our government.

    Absolutely fascinating stuff.

I mentioned Roswell in my recent UFO article, and my own investigation turned up many long-time Roswell area residents who said there were two craft engaged in an aerial battle that night, and both crashed some 60 miles apart. Some of the survivors are apparently long-lived and still alive, helping us reverse-engineer their technology, which includes the new propulsion system used in our current space exploration craft that's heading to the edge of our solar system.

Good article, Ranger. Regardless on what one thinks actually happened at Roswell, there are too many credible witnesses to alien craft that can't be dismissed. Aircraft pilots, both commercial and civilian, have observed unbelievable aerial phenomenon over the years.
