Here are some ideas for peachy keen Halloween costumes from the decade that brought us sock hops, television and rock and roll.

50s I Love Lucy Halloween Costume Ideas for Women

Lucille Ball is the epitome of the typical 50s housewife. You can make an I Love Lucy Halloween costume, get a close-fitting bodice dress with a flared skirt. The dress can be any color and pattern you like. It should have short sleeves, a white collar and a belt. Put an apron with colored trim over the top of the skirt. If your hair isn't red, or if it is red and you don't want to cut it, get a red wig and style it into a poodle cut.

Wear big clip-on earrings and paint your nails red. Pluck your eyebrows as thin as possible, then use eyeliner pencil to give them some definition. Wear thick, bright red lipstick, a light layer of red blush, liquid eyeliner, nude eyeshadow and false eyelashes with lots of mascara.

50s Poodle Skirt Halloween Costume Ideas for Women

Teenagers typically wore poodle skirts to sock hops back in the 50s. Today, there's no age limit for wearing a poodle skirt. You can make an easy poodle skirt costume by getting a flared or prairie skirt in any color you like. Get a poodle iron-on applique. If you'd like to also give the poodle a leash, get a leash applique or some fabric paint in the same color as your poodle decoration. You can also stitch on your poodle and leash, if you prefer. Add a short-sleeved blouse, a sheer scarf to tie around your neck, a bow to put in your hair, crinolines or petticoats, a belt and black and white oxford flats. For a sexy 50s poodle skirt costume, wear a sleeveless tank or halter top and high-heeled shoes. Be sure to kick your shoes off so you can rock in your socks like they did back in the day.

50s Pin Up Girl Halloween Costume Ideas for Women

There are several different ways to make a 50s pin up girl Halloween costume. One of the best is to wear a bathing suit that hugs the hips like a miniskirt. You could also wear a 50s style bikini. Style your hair in tight curls by pin-curling it or wearing sponge rollers. For best results, sleep in the curlers all night and mist the curlers with hair spray before removing them. Finish your 50s pin up girl costume by wearing high heels and putting a large bow in your hair.
