6 Beauty Rules You Should Never Forget

Amanda Furbeck
Some people always seem to look perfectly put together, no matter what the occasion. Sure, it comes easier for some of us. And some of us have to work a little harder to look so good. But we can all make subtle improvements in our daily routine to look more polished. Here are my favorite beauty rules that you should never forget.

Wear what looks good, no matter what the trend is. I love fashion and I love the changing trends. But sometimes, what's trendy just doesn't look good. So even if there's a terrific fashion trend - if it doesn't look good, skip it. Wear styles that look great on you -and that make you look great.

Wear the right size. I really want to be a size zero. And I like to think that my clothes are all extra small, but the reality is different. The key to looking great is in ignoring the number on the tag and choosing the clothes that fit just right. If you have lumps, bumps, or muffin top, try a size larger or choose a different cut of clothing. If the number on the tag bothers you, cut it out! Don't squeeze yourself into something that is too tight, too small, and uncomfortable.

Use good posture. Your mother was totally right. Do yourself a big favor and just stand up straight. Square your shoulders, hold your tummy tight, and your head up. You'll be pleasantly surprised at how much younger and thinner you'll look. Your clothes will fit better, too. Stand in front of a full length mirror and practice using good posture. Bonus, you'll look and feel more confident. Others will see you as more confident and more competent.

Be creative. Dare to think [a little] outside the box. If you are very conservative, push the limits a little bit. Wear a flashy necklace, a bit of leopard print, or a bright red pumps. If you're trendy, try something classic. Mix up a blazer with a pair of shorts, tights, and a great pair of boots. Find a look that pushes your limits a little bit and have fun with your fashion.

Take one thing off. Timeless fashion advice says look in the mirror, take away one accessory, and you'll be just right. It's great advice for a classic, chic look. But sometimes styles beg for piling on. Just pick one item to pile, such as bracelets or necklaces, or layered tops. Don't pile all three at once.

Smile. Whatever you wear, wear it with a great big smile. Exude self-confidence, friendliness, and happiness, and you'll look great no matter what you wear.
