6 Best Things You Can Do for Your Skin This Winter

Sabah Karimi

If you're still battling dry and flaky skin this winter, make sure your skin care routine includes products that boost hydration and bring out your radiant glow. Exfoliating and moisturizing need to be at the top of your priority list this season -- skimping on the basics will leave you with dry, itchy, and even inflamed skin. A few tweaks to your daily regimen could be all it takes to keep skin healthy and smooth all season long. This is also a good time to stock up on a few good products that support your new habits.

Here are six of the best things you can do for your skin this winter:

#1: Treat Yourself to a Body Scrub Treatment

Body scrubs are among my favorite body treatments at the spa, but you can enjoy all the benefits with an at-home spa treatment this season. A high-quality scrub made with brown sugar or sea salt is your best bet for getting rid of dead skin and revealing the healthy layer of skin underneath. One of my favorites for winter is the FarmHouse Fresh Bourbon Bubbler Brown Scrub. It not only smells amazing but contains plenty of buffing ingredients to keep skin smooth and soft. Use it in the shower once a week to keep skin in good shape.

#2: Invest in a Good Facial Buffing Tool

My Clarisonic Pro is one of the best investments I've ever made in the skin care department - even estheticians use it in their spa facial treatments and it's easy to travel with. These brushes work to buff and tone your skin and will make your cleansing routine that much more effective. You can even find a travel-size version if you're on the road a lot and want to keep your skin looking fresh and radiant.

#3: Get a Spa Facial

Whether you have dry, oily, or acne-prone skin, head to your nearest day spa or medical spa for a professional facial. Facials performed by trained estheticians will help to rebalance troubled skin, increase circulation, and also deep clean those pores. Your pores can get clogged up easily when you're indoors all winter and layering on the makeup. Get a spa treatment to purge those pores and get back your healthy glow.

#4: Eat More Water-Based Foods

It's easy to skimp on fresh fruits and veggies during the winter months but you still need to shop the produce aisles and get your fill of vitamins, minerals, and water. Eat more fruits and veggies with a high water content, like zucchini, celery, asparagus, tomatoes, citrus fruits, and cucumbers.

#5: Stay Away from the Heater and Fireplace

While cozying up right next to the fireplace or heater may be a favorite winter pastime, it's also one that will dry out your skin fast. Avoid sitting so close to the heater or fireplace for extended periods of time and lower the temperature in your house or apartment when you can - you'll also want to avoid sitting right under a vent when the heat is on. Stay warm with layers and make sure to moisturize day and night.

#6: Moisturize Right After a Bath or Shower

Splurge on a really good body butter this winter and make sure you use it after every shower or bath. Your skin will be more responsive to any products you use right after the sudsing session and the boost of hydration will keep your skin soft and glowing this season. Pamper dry skin with something like the Chocolate Truffle Shea Radiance Whipped Shea Butter that contains sweet cocoa butter, vanilla oil, and vitamin E.
