For those who are wondering what regifting is, it is the giving out of gifts you have received from others. Not such a bad idea when coupled with good intentions.
While there are myriad reasons why people resort to regifting, the foremost should be: to pass along items to the next recipient who will have use for it and who will have a better appreciation for it. Saving a little money should only comes second to it.
So that regifting will work and the receiver will not know what does not have to be known, the regifter should keep the following don'ts of regifting in mind:
1. Don't get caught. This is the critical don't in this list for obvious reasons.
2. Don't regift items that were obviously purchased for you, such as, items with your name stitched or embossed on it, or something which relate to a unique hobby of yours. These items, you got to keep because they are risky regifts.
3. Don't regift handmade items, such as the red and green knitted blouse you received as present last Christmas from your dear Aunt Clara, which has taken her the entire month of November, last year, to knit. She will surely be crushed when she saw your best friend wearing it instead of you. Handmade items are a no-no regiftables.
4. Don't regift items you won in some company raffle with that company's logo on it. A regift present must at least be worth something. No freebies, please.
5. Don't regift out of spite. It will come full cirlce and your regifted item will, some Christmas day, land back under your tree!
6. Don't regift without double checking for tell-tale regifting signs. You know, gift tags, name of previous gifter underneath. Removed and disposed of all regifting evidences.
If you keep in mind the foregoing don'ts of regifting, your regift will succeed and your unwanted presents will be appreciated at last.
