6 Easy Halloween Costumes for Busy Adults

Kathleen McDade
Halloween's a busy time. If you're a parent, you have to make sure the kids have costumes, and even if you're not a parent, there's always the rest of life to deal with (especially since Halloween doesn't usually fall on a weekend). If you're like me, you may find yourself searching the house at the last minute for Halloween costume materials. Here are some ideas for easy, last-minute Halloween costumes for adults.

The Graduate
Do you still have your cap and gown from high school or college? Pull it out and wear it as a costume! You can get creative with Halloween make up as well; be a zombie graduate or a monster graduate.

A California Raisin
Cut head and arm holes in a black plastic garbage bag. Put it on. Stuff with newspapers or plastic grocery bags and fasten securely around you at the bottom (you'll probably need help with this). Wear sunglasses and practice your dance moves!

The Tourist
This costume comes straight from your closet. Wear shorts, sandals, and a loud Hawaiian shirt. Carry a camera and overstuffed tote bag or shopping bag. This may not be suitable for colder climates!

Super Sports Fan
Be the insane fan filled with team spirit! Choose your favorite sports team. Naturally, you'll wear any clothing you have for that team. But you'll also need to paint your face in team colors, and add any other accessories you might have in team colors - jewelry, headbands, scarves, etc. You may be able to find accessories cheaply at discount or dollar stores. And don't forget your hair! Wear the team hat, by all means, but also consider temporary hair coloring.

Zombie Prom
Have you got an old formal or bridesmaid's dress? An old suit or tux? You can go to prom, even as an undead zombie! Cover your face and neck with white makeup, outline your eyes in black, and add blood and/or wounds if desired. Makeup is widely and cheaply available at Halloween, but you can also make your own with household ingredients.

Switch Night
Dress as a member of the opposite sex. This works especially well for couples - you can dress as each other for Halloween! If you're dressing as a woman, don't forget the purse and heels. Dressing as a guy? That's usually a little harder, but thrift store clothing can help with your costume. Try for a whole suit if you can, to complete the guy look. Glasses seem to help, too.
