6 Easy Steps to Clean Your Game Disks and Console

OK, I have been hearing a lot of questions recently from people who say that their game won't work or the console is having trouble reading disk. Most likely they just need a good cleaning. It is not hard to clean a disk or a laser lens. You need the following: rubbing alcohol, a soft lint free rag (cotton or terrycloth) and possibly q-tips. I suggest cleaning both the game and the lens periodically.

To clean a disc:

1. Dampen the rag with rubbing alcohol. You can use the store bought stuff but it is basically alcohol so save yourself some cash and just get a cheap bottle of rubbing alcohol.

2. Gently wipe the disk with the damp cloth in a circular motion as if the disk is spinning from the center hole out.

3, Repeat 2 until disk is clean and free of grime and dirt.

4. Dry the disk of excess alcohol with a dry rag.

5. Wipe the disk again with the same technique in number 1 but with a dry rag.

6. Put the game back in the console and enjoy playing your newly cleaned disk!

To clean a laser lens.(you will use q tip instead of rag!):

1. Dampen the q tip with rubbing alcohol. You can use the store bought stuff but it is basically alcohol so save yourself some cash and just get a cheap bottle of rubbing alcohol.

2. Gently wipe the disk with the damp q tip in a circular motion over the little glass lens.

3, Repeat 2 until lens is clean and free of grime and dirt.

4. Dry the disk of excess alcohol with a dry q tip.

5. Wipe the disk again with the same technique in number 1 but with a dry q tip.

6. Put the your favorite game in your newly cleaned console and enjoy playing your games!

Other cleaning tips!

You can use a can of compressed air to blow excess dust out of your console. I recommend doing this from time to time to keep your console running freely without excess dust particles.

I have also heard that you can clean a disk with toothpaste although I have never tried it.

Note: If your disk is scratched badly or cracked this method might not work and you may need to take it and have it resurfaced somewhere like blockbuster(and most other places that rent games/DVDs) or possibly replacing the disk.
