6 Eco-Friendly Crafts for the Home

Making your own decorations is one of the best parts about owning a home. Additionally, reusing old items and creating a masterpiece is a cost effective and eco-friendly way to give your home that unique look that you want. You can get together with some neighbors or your kids and let the creative juices flow, or you can take these projects on for a relaxing afternoon.

Eco-Friendly Craft for the Home #1: A quilt made from scarves.

Turn that scarf excess in the back of your closet into a beautiful quilt or throw. All you have to do is pair up six or seven scarves, cut them to be the same length, and sew them together. Since every scarf is slightly different no two blankets will ever be the same.

Eco-Friendly Craft for the Home #2: Mixed glass centerpiece.

Old bottles and jars make for an easy centerpiece. Just group them together on a tray and fill them with leaves, flowers, marbles or anything else you like. The possibilities are really endless.

Eco-Friendly Craft for the Home #3: Make new candles from old ones.

Melt down whatever is left from burned out candles in a pot over a low flame. Then pour the liquid wax into a pot, bottle, jar, or anything that you think would make a great candle.

Eco-Friendly Craft for the Home #4: Sweater seats.

Upgrade your dining room chairs and give them a cozy feel by upholstering them with pieces from old or thrift store sweaters.

Eco-Friendly Craft for the Home #5 Cork hotplate.

Have you ever wondered what to do with the corks from wine bottles? It turns out that they don't just keep your wine from spoiling; they can also be used to protect your tables. Collect as many corks as you like depending on the size that you want, arrange them into a tight circle, and tighten a metal hose clamp around them.

Eco-Friendly Craft for the Home #6: Hors d'oeuvres tray from mismatched dishware.

If you like to entertain and have parties then this is the craft for you. Find any mismatched plates and cups that you may have lying around and use them to make a stunning centerpiece for appetizers. For instance, take three plates and stack them in descending size, then place cups between them as spacers and glue it all together. In less than five minutes you can have a beautiful piece to show off at your next party.
