Many web hosting companies will give you one click installation of a wordpress blog and you can also use a whole variety of wordrpress "plugins" to add a whole range of features to your blog.
Before you're about to create a blog, here are a few important suggestions:
1. Enter new posts on a regular basis. At least once a week is recommended. Once or twice a day will usually get you the best search engine results. If you have staff who can write useful, targeted information you can have each staff member enter a blog post once a week splitting the work between you. In wordpress you can enter multiple posts and have each actually appear on your blog at a time you set in the future. So you could do 7 posts for a whole week in one sitting and set them to appear one at a time each day.
2. The more highly targeted content you are creating between you and your staff the more attention you're likely to draw from the search engines. Your blog posts don't have to be too long to be effective at getting search engine traffic. The ideal length for a post is usually somewhere between 200 and 600 words. But if you have a couple of images or a video in your post you could probably get away with as little as 100-250 words.
3. Be sure that your blog is set to "ping" automatically every time you make a post. Put simply "pinging" your post is letting the search engines and blog indexing services know that you've just added new content to your blog. Wordpress blogs can be set to "ping" automatically with each post you make. This will help the search engines find your new content and index it meaning a whole lot more free visitors to your blog.
4. Use images and videos to make your blog more exciting and interesting for your visitors. You can create images by taking photos with an inexpensive digital camera and uploading them to your blog (most blogs have step by step instructions for this). You can also create a video with a digital camera or even the camera on a cell phone and upload that to a video sharing site like YouTube, using the code to "embed" the video on your blog.
5. Have an enticing incentive and a sign up box for your email list under every post in your blog. This is a huge secret to getting a whole pile of email subscribers as the visitors start coming from search engines to various different pages of your blog.
6. Care about giving the best service and genuinely helping your client. Always give useful information that highlights the reasons your prospects should buy from you and your clients should buy from you over and over.
