6 Reasons to Wait on Switching to Windows Vista

Lindsey Russell
Are you considering upgrading to Windows Vista? Here are 6 reasons to stick with Windows XP - at least for now.

1. There will be bugs and service packs.

It seem as though every single time Microsoft comes out with a new operating system, there are inevitably bugs that are found a short time later. Many surround security. It can easily be imagined that the same thing will happen with Vista. As the security issues are discovered and addressed, Microsoft will create service packs for download from their website. Why not wait to upgrade or purchase a new computer with Vista preloaded until the software is established?

2. What is the real difference?

Bill Gates and the rest of Microsoft keep selling Vista on its new security features. The truth is that many of the much touted security features aren't even included with the basic version of Vista. In addition, the issues that it supposedly addresses can be more thoroughly addressed by downloading tried and true free utility software. Check Download.com for a wide range of software solutions. So, if you aren't going to purchase Vista for its new security features, why will you buy it? Chances are you have heard about the great new graphics. They are certainly much better than XP, but in reality, they aren't anything special when compared with Linux or a Mac. It is that simple. Really, can't neat graphics wait?

3. Software compatibility.

Inevitably, most software packages undergo significant revamping after a major new release of Windows - the most popular operating system in the world. Wouldn't it be nice to simply upgrade most of your main software all at once? If you hold off and upgrade to Vista when you need a new PC, you can upgrade just about everything all at once in a quite cost-effective manner. If you are a do it yourself type of person when it comes to computers, why not upgrade your hardware first? That way, you will get the biggest bang for your buck when you upgrade to Vista.

4. It is bound to come down in price.

As the software goes mainstream, it invariably goes down in price. You might just be able to upgrade for a lot less if you are willing to wait.

5. You already have a lot invested in your computer system.

Chances are that if you are serious about computers and the Internet, you have already spent a great deal of time and money getting your system exactly the way that you'd like that. While you might not be opposed to simply upgrading your operating system, it just might be prudent to think it over for a bit and plan your transition. After all, you don't want all of your hard work to go down the drain.

6. Instead of upgrading to Vista you might be ready to try a completely different operating system.

Let's face it. The price of hard drives has come down considerably all the while giving consumers unprecedented amounts of storage space. As a result, it isn't difficult at all to have more than one operating system on one PC - although it requires petitioning your hard drive once you get it. If you set it up this way, however, you might want to experiment with operating systems such as Linux. Windows, while commanding more than 90% of the market share, isn't the only game in town. Get creative and you might just want to ditch Windows once and for all.

These are but a few good reasons that you might just want to wait to upgrade to Vista.
