6 Time Management Tips for Business Moms

Kara Kelso
Moms are busy people even if they don't have a business to balance on top of the regular "mom tasks". Lots of us complain about not having enough time to accomplish all the tasks we have on any given day, and not being organized enough. Although having good organization and management skills is an absolute must for your business. Being well organized can greatly affect your bottom line, and how successful you are. That the main goal of a business, right? Of course we want to be successful!

Applying a few of the following tips will help you become more organized, and make better use of your time. Just be sure to put an honest effort into some of the ideas below instead of just saying "I can't do that". Everyone can do almost all of the ideas below, and so can you! Excuses are one of the biggest problems standing in your way, so do try a few of these ideas.

1. Learn to delegate
Most of us are mothers and as moms we tend to automatically take on everything and are used to doing everything ourselves. There's absolutely nothing wrong with delegating different tasks. Go ahead and let someone else take control!

2. Set business hours
One way to keep yourself and your business organized is to set regular business hours. For example, if you have kids in school all day, make that time your normal business day. If you are use to doing errands while kids are in school, set aside part of that time for your business as well. It's not really the amount of time you have, but how you use it. It seems the less time we have the more we get done anyway, and that's because we tend to be more focused on certain activities we know are productive. So set your hours, and stick to them as much as possible.

3. Keep your office organized
My mom use to say "A place for everything and everything in it's place". You've probably heard that before too. Now practice it - make sure you put things back in their place when you are done so you'll always know where something is when you need it. Easier said that done, but at least give it a try. You'd be amazed the habits you start to pick up if you make the choice to keep a tidy desk. Mine may not be perfect right now, but I can quickly find important papers for my business.

4. Group like activities/errands
Keep track of errands that need done and try scheduling most of them on the same day. For example, if you need to deliver products from your last few home parties, try to drop them all off at the same day so you aren't wasting time running out more than once. If you need to go to the bank, go to the store and get your grocery shopping done too. You'll save a whole lot of time (and money too).

5. To-do lists
Having a to-do list keeps you motivated and lets you know what needs done at all times. There's several different ways you can set up a to-do list, so be sure to try out a few different ways to see what works best for you.

6. Plan for tomorrow
Make it a habit to review the following days schedule at the end of each day. This one step can save you a lot of time getting started, since you already know what you need to do before the computer even goes on.

Take a few minutes right now and start a list of everything you need to get done. Take that list and re-write it by placing the things that most need accomplished and place them at the top of your list. Once you're finished get back to work and cross off tasks as you go. Not only will you find yourself getting more accomplished you'll also find a sense of fulfillment.
