6 Tips for Balancing Work and Home Life Daily

Rachel Heller
Life is very stressful; therefore it is often hard to balance all of our daily responsibilities. In fact, at times it may seem impossible to balance both our home and work life. I must confess that when I started working at home it was very difficult to do this. However, I have learned to balance both my home and work life over the year. Achieving a healthy balance between the two worlds is essential in order to avoid stress and remain sane. Therefore, here are 6 tips for balancing work and home life daily.

1. Set definite hours for work duties and home duties: I am a writer and my home and my office are the same place. Therefore, I balance both by setting definite work hours. I write from 9-1, have lunch, and write and until about 5. Then I take care of my home responsibilities.

2. Set priorities each day: I try to set up a writing project list for the week. Once I am done with my writing and research for Monday I do something else so I don't lose my creative juices for Tuesday.

3. Stick to your Guns: If you say that you will only spend 2 hours on an activity, then try to stick to that timeframe. Sticking to timeframes is a good way to balance both your work and home life daily.

4. Don't answer the phone at home: This is easier said than done. But, if you answer the phone all day at work then, not answering the phone at home will help you unwind from work and relieve stress. I let my answering machine get my calls and then I check them and call people back at my leisure.

5. Listen to Music: I find that listening to music when working and at home helps me relax and thus balance my work and home life daily. Listening to music makes my work and home activities more fun and they go quickly. I recommend listening to jazz or easy listening.

6. Have a way to relieve stress: When I am stressed by either my work or home life, I take clay or Play-Doh and manipulate it in my hands until the tension of the day melts away. I also bake to balance my work and home life. Also, when it is warm out I go swimming.

Balancing home and work life isn't easy. I think that it boils down to time management. It also takes some time to do this. However, it is necessary in order to avoid stress and to keep one's sanity.
