1. Location, location, location:
Some skydiving companies are smart enough to have a property large enough to contain both their airport and their drop zone. This is great because your friends can come with you to the airport, and watch as you fall down to the ground.
2. United States Parachute Association schools are some of the most reputable as this is the only agency granted FAA approval for skydiving licensure.
3. Safety record: Don't be shy to ask the number accidents and fatalities a school has had. Skydiving companies are obliged to answer this and in asking you might find why few reputable skydiving companies price below $200-250 for a jump.
4. Ask about the equipment. Skydiving gear is used over and over again and if you are concerned enough it never hurts to ask about the quality of their equipment. Ask if there is an emergency secondary release mechanism and what type it is. Ask specifically if they use "CYPRES" technology, it is the cutting edge of skydiving and has saved countless lives. Some skydiving companies save money by not investing in state of the art skydiving equipment, including technology that while deploy a parachute for you in the unlikely event you and your instructor are unable.
5. Ask how many skydivers jump at their school and how many of those are repeat customers. This will give you a clear idea of the reputation of that school so you don't have to worry as you successfully check off "Skydiving in Las Vegas" from your life's to do list.
6. Make a reservation. Most skydiving schools in Las Vegas operate daily. The whole process takes 3-4 hours including transportation time to and from the strip, which most schools offer in the form of a free shuttle van that leaves 2-3 times per day. Many people psych themselves into thinking skydiving is too dangerous, complicated, or time consuming to get into when it turns out to be very simple, fun, and awe inspiring for less than many would think. It costs around $200-250, including transportation from the strip in most cases. Companies have thousands of people jump every year with few accidents, and with the proper research you can eliminate even those that you might not feel comfortable with and choose one with a proven track record. Your tandem instructor will go over the entire process very thoroughly before the flight, you will be attached to them the entire time and they will do their best, as they have done for many before, to help you have a safe and awesome time. Follow my tips and you will have a breathtaking adventure.
