6 Tips to Find the Cheapest Car Insurance

Shop Around for Cheap Car Insurance and Save Money!

Jessie Kay
It's never fun shopping for car insurance. It's one of life's most boring chores, ranking right up there with ironing and unloading the dishwasher. Car insurance is expensive and can eat up a huge chunk of your budget if you don't shop around for cheaper prices. Here are a few tips to find the cheapest car insurance.

Finding Cheap Car Insurance Tip #1: Quotes are free!
Whether you call an insurance agent or get an estimate online, car insurance quotes are always free. Several websites, including InsWeb.com offer features to compare insurance rates from different carriers. Getting a quote only takes a few minutes and best of all, it's free.

Finding Cheap Car Insurance Tip #2: Call your current insurance agent:
Many times, if you mention you're shopping around for cheaper car insurance rates, your current agent might be able to offer you a discount on your current policy. Insurance agents are more likely to do this if you have other policies (home, boat, etc) with the company.

Finding Cheap Car Insurance Tip #3: How high of a deductible are you willing to pay?
Your deductible can be the biggest factor in what you pay for car insurance. If you're willing to pay a higher deductible in the event of an accident, you'll pay less each time your car insurance is due. Likewise, if you want a low or no deductible, you'll pay more. While you could go your entire life without an accident, it can happen at any time (and due to Murphy's Law, it happens at the worst time possible!), so know what you can afford. It's best to make sure you have the amount of your deductible in a savings account in the event of an accident. If that amount is not feasible, consider lowering your deductible.

Finding Cheap Car Insurance Tip #4: What's the Blue Book value of your car?
By knowing how much your car is worth and what type of theft risk your vehicle has, you'll have a better understanding of how much to expect to pay for car insurance. It also will help thrawt any over-paying for insurance as well. This is also something to think about when purchasing a vehicle.

Finding Cheap Car Insurance Tip #5: Clean up your driving record
While you can't change the past, you can take steps to improve the future, and that includes your driving record. If you have a stack of speeding tickets, DUI's, or at-fault accidents, you're simply not going to get cheap car insurance, period. Stay safe on the roads and you'll be rewarded with cheap car insurance.

Finding Cheap Car Insurance Tip #6: Apply Discounts
Safe driver, student drivers, over 25 discounts, federal employee discounts, and more are available, so it's worth it to ask any insurance agent you're considering if any discounts apply to you.

Sure, shopping around for cheap car insurance isn't fun. No one wants to spend their money on car insurance-we can all agree it's much more fun to spend money on shoes or video games! But if you drive a car, you need car insurance--it's the law. Hopefully these tips will give you a few ideas on how to find cheap car insurance.
