1. Collect your coins. This seems to be a new fad once again with the emergence of Coin-star and the Penny Arcade at TD Bank. Each day everyone comes home with a few coins from lunch and usually those coins get lost in car seats or in between couch cushions. Instead, every day when you come home put those coins in a jar and at the end of each month go cash it in for some extra dough!
2. Only use cash. It's tough once in awhile when you're out and you don't have enough cash on you to buy something you really want. However, if you limit the use of your credit cards and debit cards to absolute emergencies you will seen a steady bank account number instead of one that seems to continually drop. Plus when you use cash those extra coins end up in your jar that you cash in every month.
3. Give up bad habits. Smoking cigarettes especially. The cost of cigarettes has exponentially increased in the past few years and it seems like its a trip to the ATM every time you want to buy a pack. As a non-smoker myself, it's quite simple to say than do I'm well aware, but try to kick some other bad habits as well, or habits that aren't necessarily bad just money wasting.
4. Machine washable clothes. If you do have the need to go out and buy new clothes buy clothes that are machine washable rather than dry clean only. You'll save a trip to the dry cleaners, a few extra bucks, and gas money.
5. Libraries for movie. Let's face it, today we love movies and there is definitely no shortage of places to get them. Did you know though, that with a library card you get very up to date movies at your local library for free as opposed to paying for them on line or going out to the store and renting one. This is an easy way to save around $20 a month.
6. Buy in bulk. Costco is a great choice for this. Why is buying in bulk so good? When you run out of something you need or want you have to make a run to the store but how hard is it to go into a store and only buy that one thing you went in to buy? You'll save various trips to the grocery store and all that money from the extra supplies you bought by buying what you want in bulk.
