6 Tips to Make Work Enjoyable

Leslie Boe
Many of us will spend approximately two-thirds of our lives working. Translated it comes out to eight hours on the job, eight hours sleeping, and eight hours to be spent as you wish. With one-third of the hours in your day spent at work, you have to present yourself well, get along with your co-workers and enjoy yourself in your chosen job.

You really have to practice your listening and communication skills in order to get along with your co-workers. It's amazing how what they think of you can influence your standing in the company.

Here are a few tips to help you increase the presentation of yourself which will increase your standing with your co-workers,

1. Maintain a pleasant manner all day. Fake it if you have to, but be pleasant. Co-workers don't want to be faced with a grump. Others will find you to be someone they can approach. Being approachable leads me to the next item.

2. Be willing to help others. Don't underestimate what this can do for you. You will be seen as a team worker. However, don't neglect your own work in the process. Those with authority may increase your duties. Consider it a compliment. They know that you can handle the increase of duties and are a well-liked employee. This will keep you busy, and busy is better than being bored.

3. Leave problems at home. Deal with them at home. Don't put them on your co-worker. More than likely, your co-workers have their own problems.

4. Decorate your work area with things you love (pictures, coloring book drawing, etc.). Also, laugh during the day. It's important to keep things around that make you laugh. These items not only add life to your work area, they remind you of the person you are - and not just a number working for the company. Last, but not least, the decorations tell your co-workers that you are a person with personality.

5. Unfortunately there will be times of trouble. If you feel you are being treated unfairly, gather the facts and present them in a calm way to your supervisor. Try to do this as soon as you can so you are seen as assertive. Also, by taking action quickly, you are preventing anyone from undermining you.

6. If you want to be promoted, earn it, but don't forget to play the office politics. There is no way around it, there are politics in the work place and it doesn't pay to get on the wrong side of anyone. So make sure to be friendly to everyone or you may be bad-mouthed or out on the streets looking for another job.

These are some things to assist you in making work enjoyable.

Great tips.. one of my big things when ever I started a job was going in with one thing on my mind only.. I was there to do a job.. if I made a friend along the way great.. but my main priority was my job... I see too many who get caught up on the socailization at a work place and lose sight of what they are really there for.. Now I am in a different field then I ever dreamed I would ever see myself in.. and now the astmosphere is more like walking into a family home and it truly threw me off my norm.. so I guess the moral of my story is .. not everything is set in stone... okay.. maybe none of this has anything to do with your article.. lol.. and I went off on a ramble.. but hey.. I am known for that.. lol!

These are good tips, Sophie. I know people at work who habitually bring their personal lives into work and want to let everyone know their problems and what goes on at home. I try to avoid those people. They are not pleasant to be around.
