1. Make some special treats just for your pets. Any dog enjoys a treat. When you're fixing Christmas dinner, or fixing food for your Christmas party, your dog will probably sit there and think, "So where's my plate?". A good idea if you want to include your pet in your Christmas dinner or celebration is to make them some special homemade dog treats. One of my favorite websites with dog treat recipes is: http://www.thepoop.com/pooppantry/
2. Share the Christmas joy of gift giving with them. Some of the things I look forward to when Christmas comes around is gift exchanging. Add an extra someone to your list this year, and buy your dog something as well! Examples of a great gift for your pet include: treats, toys, a new dog bed, collar, pampering kits (such as shampoos), etc. Don't spend too much money, because pets aren't materialistic. They'll always enjoy a simple gift as much as they would an expensive one.
3. Dress them up. Last year I dressed up my Yorkshire Terrier in an elf costume! I took her to get pictures made, and got the pictures put on to my Christmas cards! This is also a great idea if you are looking for something special to put on your Christmas cards this year.
4. Go to get your pictures made with Santa. A lot of times around the holidays, your local department store, or pet store have special, "Get your pictures taken with your pets and Santa" day. This is a great opportunity, considering pets love pictures more or just as much as we do. This is a fun activity for you and your pet, or your children and your pet.
5. Get them their own stocking. Hang up and extra stocking for another loved one in your family- Your pet! Fill it with some doggy treats, or maybe even a new toy! They'll love it either way, and they'll know that you love them too.
6. Take them for a walk. This time of year it's great to go take a walk, because the weather feels great, and best of all- the scenery is amazing. I love going on walks around the neighborhood around Christmas time, and viewing all the different lights. Most people don't take their dogs for walks around this time, because of the cold weather. Put on something warm, get your leash, and take the two of you on a nice walk. This is a great opportunity to get some exercise, and I'm sure your dog will like this as well.
