It's common to reevaluate our lives and make new resolutions all through the month of January, but there are equally worthy reasons to keep this attitude all through the year. Make new resolutions each month to keep yourself on the right track to where you want to be. When it comes to beauty, consider these resolutions for looking and feeling your best.
1. Change the way you style your hair frequently. It's easy to get caught in a rut and get bored with your day-to-day routine. Breaking out and feeling more confident can stem from something as small as wearing your hair in an updo or even a French braid once a week to break up the monotony. You don't have to cut your hair or dye it cherry red to stand out in the crowd. Simply change small things you do, such as pulling your bangs back with a barrette or making waves with a curling iron.
2. Reach for the glitter. Many adult make-up brands incorporate a little glitter into eye shadows and sometimes blushes, and all the more young adult brands do so as well. The year 2012 invites a lot of glitz and glamour. Wear sparkles and glitter for even casual outings as simply a part of your make-up and fashion choices. Don't go overboard, or you'll look like a Christmas tree. One glittering choice per ensemble is just right.
3. Make time for beauty sleep. It's not just a myth that old-time movie heroines like Esther in "Meet Me in St. Louis" mused about in their cheeky dialogue. It's simply a scientific fact that your body needs rest both to look and feel its best. Try to get eight hours of sleep each night. Even though it may be tempting to skip sleep during the week and try to catch up on rest during the weekend, that doesn't actually replenish your body in the way that regularly adequate rest during the week does.
4. Dare to go "younger." Too many women worry and fret over wearing an outfit that is too short or too frilly for fear that they will look "too old" to pull off flirty looks at a certain point. Now, there may be judgmental people out there, but their opinion of you is none of your business. Instead, value your own opinion above others' fickle and evolving ones. Choose the outfit you enjoy no matter what age group may be sporting it today.
5. Don't shy away from wearing gloves. Even when it's not the dead of winter, gloves are a timeless fashion statement. You can wear elegant glove to match your attire entirely, much as Jackie Kennedy chose to do for numerous public appearances, or you can opt to contrast the colors of your ensemble with your choice of gloves.
6. Buy beauty products that aren't tested on animals. Animal testing has been proven time and again to be completely unnecessary in modern product testing, and companies that keep the barbaric practice torture thinking, feeling beings on a daily basis. Not so beautiful! What's inside shows on the outside. Preserve your inner and outer beauty, and just walk away from products tested on animals.
7. Get more out of everything from special events and casual dates by putting extra thought into how you want to look and feel for them. We all look our best when we're well-rested and prepared for the event at hand. Go so far as to make a list of what you will wear to which event and how much rest you need to feel just right for it. It may seem time-consuming, but it will save you time and worry in the end if you are enjoying the events on your schedule, rather than simply rushing through them with regrets and worries.
