One of the goals that every Web site owner wants to achieve is to have their Web site indexed in and ranked high in the search engines. To rank high in any search engine such as Google, Yahoo, or MSN means that your Web site get more exposure and gains more traffic from visitors. And if your Web site gets more traffic, then you're likely to make more money!
Before I give you tips on how you can drive more traffic to your Web site and improve your search engine ranking, first let's make sure your Web site has been included or indexed in the major search engines. To do that you would visit the search engine and type in the URL of your Web site into the search box either like http://yoursite.com/ or www.yoursite.com or yoursite.com. If you're Web site shows up in search results that means you're indexed!
If you're Web site is fairly new, it may take awhile to show up in the search engines. Be patient and in the meantime just work on creating quality content for your Web site - which I'll talk about more in detail later.
Now that you know your Web site is indexed in the search engines, let's get to the nitty gritty stuff. Here are seven very easy ways to attract more traffic to your Web site and improve your search engine ranking...
Include the keyword or phrase in the title of the Web page you'd like to rank for. You can view the title of a Web page by first visiting the page and looking in the very top left-hand corner of your Web browser. The page title is specified by the tag on the current page. If you had someone else build your Web site for you, you'll need to talk with them to change a page title.
As an example, let's say that you're a real estate agent in San Diego who wants to attract Web site visitors who are looking for "San Diego real estate agents". You'll want to include that search phrase in the title of your home page.
Include the keyword you'd like to target within the content on the page you'd like to increase the ranking for. Just like you added the keyword or phrase to the title of your Web site, you'll want to include that same keyword or phrase within the body of the Web page.
Often you'll hear or see the word "keyword density" mentioned in regards to this topic. Many SEO (search engine optimzation) experts say that your keyword should appear several times within the content on the page in order for that page to rank higher in the search engines. However, don't go overboard! You want your Web site to be easy to read. If a search engine thinks you've been stuffing your Web site with keywords just for the sake of getting a high ranking, your Web site may be banned or removed from their search results!
Update your Web site on a weekly basis. It's true that most search engines - especially Google - like Web sites that are updated with fresh content and will rank these Web sites higher in search results. Providing quality content on a regular basis isn't just good for high search engine rankings, it also attracts repeat visits to your Web site. Quality content inspires people to want to share your Web site with other people!
Write articles related to your Web site's topic and submit them to article directories. Article marketing is great (not to mention it's free!) because:
1. Many people are browsing the internet for information. Articles that offer helpful and useful information are more likely to be read. Because you've included your Web site info or link in the author bio or resource box, people can visit your Web site after reading your article.
2. When you submit an article to an article directory that has a high Google PR rank, those articles get more attention from the search engines, thus increasing your chances of getting more Web site visitors.
Google ranks Web pages on a scale of 0-10 with 10 being a high PR rank. The higher your Web site's PR rank, the more "trust" you have from Google. Remember that Google wants Web sites that provide top quality content at the top of their search engine results.
3. Many article directories allow other Web publishers to use your articles in their newsletters, blog, or Web sites. These publishers are obligated to include your resource box or bio which will have a link to your Web site. The more exposure your articles get, the higher the chances of getting more Web site traffic.
Attract free traffic via social networking Web sites. "Social media" and "social networking" have been the buzzwords in internet marketing lately. However, if you really think about it, social network marketing has been around since the dawn of business. It's really isn't a new concept. The idea of connecting and interacting with people is fundamental in building a business. However, now this idea has been implemented into the online business world. Do a search for "social networking Web sites" and you'll come a tons of places where you can interact with people.
Submit press releases online. There are a few places online that you can submit a free press release which will be distributed to various media outlets. Many Web site owners overlook the power of a well-written press release. Many bloggers post press releases on their blogs, so you could be missing out on free publicity and links to your Web site by not including press releases into your internet marketing strategy.
Leave comments on blogs. This strategy of driving traffic to your Web site is tied in with the concept of social networking in that you are interacting with other people online. When you leave comments on blogs, most blog owners allow you to include your name and the URL of your Web site with your comment. This creates a link back (a.k.a. backlink) to your Web site. People who read your comments may be curious about who you are and visit your Web site.
Attracting massive traffic to your Web site and improving your search engine ranking doesn't have to be hard. Follow these simple tips and you'll be on your way to online business success!
