With my little "commercial", I know I sounded like one, out of the way, allow me to introduce to you my favorite E-Audio Books which I have downloaded and had the pleasure myself to listen to.
I am sorry I haven't got a Christmas Clue!
With Christmas right around the Corner and my love for the "Christmas Carol" I had to try out this delightfully funny Spoof to this classic Story. In the best traditions of Radio Comedy they have taken a classic and turned it into a riot of laughter. Please be advised that if you are extremely serious about Christmas, can't stand foolishness and laughter, you may wish to skip this Story all together. I can guarantee you that you will never be able to look at the "Christmas Carol" the same way. This Story is not simply narrated but actually performed by a full cast of Voice Talents.
In the best way of Ebenezer Scrooge I got it free through my Library downloads. I am not sure you want to have very little ones listen to this, but I really didn't hear anything that was any worst offensive then the original Story.
Doctor Who Series
Most of you are familiar with the new Doctor Who Series currently aired on TV, but do you still remember the classic Doctor Who Series? My favorite Doctor always had been Tom Baker. I would consider the Doctor Who E-Audio Books as part of my feel good category and if it is only to give you a bit of nostalgia. They still fall under good old Story Telling without all the oversexed overtones we get in so many of today's Tales. Try them out one day, sit back with a nice cup of Tea or Coffee and turn back Time to a much more innocent time. (Perhaps they were no more innocent then we are now, but at least they didn't rub it into everyone's face)
Ella Enchanted
Even if you had the chance to watch the Movie, you will want to listen to the Story. The Movie to me did not do the Story justice. Find out how "too much obedience" can cause a lot of trouble. This is a great Story to listen to with your Elementary School Kids. Perhaps you can even ask your little Artists to draw you a few Pictures about the Misadventures Ella has to endure.
The Dragons of Pern Chronicles
If you love Dragon Stories you want to give this Series a Chance. Written and told in a delightful way that makes the Listener feel as if he or she was right there with the Heroes of the Tale. It is sweet enough for Girls and adventurous enough for boys. I used to listen to these Tales with my kids when they were a bit younger while drawing or doing crafts with them. My kids always asked for more. For me it was a step into a fantasy world in which nothing was impossible.
The Devil's in the Junior League
This Story will make you laugh on the merit of the Writers tone of voice. Not for children. The Story doesn't have anything really too offensive in it, but I don't see it hold most youngsters attention for too long. What happens when a rich Southern Bell Socialite finds out that her husband is cheating on her, has cleaned out her bank account and now has to safe face? This is a fairly new Book and you don't want to miss it.
Eragon
Another lovely Dragon Tale you don't want to miss. I always found that Dragon Stories are something most of us can enjoy. Again the Movie was nicely done, but I can not tell you how much of the Story you were missing unless you had the chance to read the Book. Since most of us don't have the time to read as much as we would like you can be entertained listening while doing your work or cleaning your house. This is a lengthy Reading so be certain you mark where you leave off.
The Cat Who Series
If you love Mysteries and believe that Cats are "gifted" you will love this fun to listen to Mystery Series for young and old. My favorite Tale in the Series is:"The Cat who went Bananas". Between Mr. Q and his two felines Coco and YumYum and an entire cast of amusing, eccentric and interesting Characters you will guess right along while solving a steady stream of Murders. Count on Coco to know to always find interesting ways to "transmit" clues to Mr. Q.
This should get you started and just in case your Library doesn't offer an E-Audio Book service here are a couple of links to Internet Audio Libraries.
