Technology with all of its flash, options and dimensions hasn't overridden the benefit or the attraction of magazines for kids either. Kids still love getting their own mail and a gift of a magazine subscription is a gift that blesses kids again and again through out the year.
What a great way to encourage reading whether your kids are insatiable readers or reluctant readers.
Not all of these magazines are solely for girls. Some are just for girls, some in my opinion are intended for both but are more attractive to girls, and some are equally perfect for young boy or girl readers.
New Moon is a fairly new magazine for girls and as a mom I am really impressed with the quality of articles and especially the positive messages for young girls.

American Girl magazine is a great magazine for young girls whether or not they are American Girl doll enthusiasts. I was surprised that the content is very focused on girls and not American Girl dolls. Girls love the quizzes. They have a fun, safe website for young girls too.

Highlights magazine is a multiple award-winning magazine that has been around for generations for a reason. It is still a fun magazine with both non-fiction and fiction articles, poetry and games kids love. Kids can also send in their own artwork or writing for a chance to be published on Your Own Pages.

Young Rider is a young horse lover's dream. Readers don't have to be horse owners or horse showers to love this magazine. There are articles for every level from those who ride daily to those who simply dream of riding a horse. Girls who love horses love the pull out posters. While it not explicitly for girls, we've noticed the photographs are overwhelmingly of girls.
Age range: 7 to 15
Sample articles:
Camp Safety Tips
Winter Survival Tips
Helping Horses in Need
Money Matters (25 tips for earning money for a horse)
Warning: There are ads in Young Rider for all things horse related.
Three additional magazines that I have reviewed are not just for girls but are very worthy considerations.
Review of Ranger Rick
Review of National Geographic Kids
Review of Dig
Magazine subscriptions make excellent birthday or Christmas gifts, especially for girls who have everything or when you simply don't know what a girl already has. Magazines are an especially fun gift from grandparents that don't live close by because it is like delivering a gift (without having to go to the post office) every month.
