7 Greatest Pets in Video Game History

Lee Andrew Henderson
The old saying is that a dog is a man's best friend. That may be the case but what about birds, dinosaurs, horses and blobs? Being the star of a video game is not an easy job. The protagonist of the video game must journey around their world hours on end searching for the kidnapped princess/evil villain/secret landmark/solution to saving the world. It's always nice to have a companion on this trip and these are the best that video games have to offer.

1) Sazh's Chocobo - Final Fantasy XIII
Sazh has lost his son and will do anything to track him down. His greatest friend on this journey is none other than a baby chocobo chick. Sazh bought the chocobo chick for his son and the chick has agreed to stay with Sazh until he finds his son. The chocobo chick often makes its home in Sazh's pseudo-afro haircut.

2) Interceptor - Final Fantasy VI
In Final Fantasy VI the masked assassin named Shadow is often described as a lone wolf. That would be true if he were alone but he actually has a companion in his pet dog Interceptor. Interceptor shows his loyalty to his master not only in the story but also in battle mode when Interceptor will often jump in front of Shadow and block it.

3) Yoshi - Super Mario Series
A dog is a pretty common pet in the real world but in the video game world the most valuable type of pet is one that the main character can ride. Being a hero in a video game is hard work. There are times when you get tired and need a friend to lug you around for a while. If that pet has a tongue and huge mouth that allows him to eat enemy characters whole then that's even better.

4) Agro - Shadow of the Colossus
Shadow of the Colossus is one of the most unique games of the past decade. Shadow of the Colossus has no villages with people to talk to, there are no supporting characters. There aren't even small minions to kill. Shadow of the Colossus only has a main character, his horse and a very large map with various bosses to kill. Those journeys between bosses can be long and tiresome and the main character only has his horse Agro to keep him company.

5) Rush - Mega Man
Mega Man is another hero in the video game world with a pet dog except his dog is robotic so he doesn't have to worry about cleaning up dog poop. Rush is very helpful in Mega Man's adventures as he turns into many helpful times like a spring to help Mega Man reach high places or a jet engine to help Mega Man fly.

6) Blobert - A Boy and His Blob
A blob is not a normal pet but since the title specifically says the blob is "his blob" it seems clear that this blob is a pet to the boy. The blob can turn into many helpful items like a ladder or a hummingbird.

7) Epona - Legend of Zelda series
If forced to choose the greatest video game hero of all-time it would be hard to top Link. Naturally since Link is one of the all-time great heroes that makes his trusty horse one of the greatest pets in video game history as well.

hey lee ive noticed that most of your articles on top ten whatever lists are really only your opinion and you list only the movies or characters that you know or like. you list 2 or three characters from FF and Yoshi who everyone knows. what about the dog from fable 2? Pimpikin? ive never played Pimpkin but ive looked it up and it seems like you have failed at that. on the disney top ten non animated its all i think or i like. someone wasnt paying attention in 11 or 12 grade english class huh?? so try to learn alittle more about what your wrtiting and do your research before you blab about what your opinions which are totally biased.
