7 Reasons Realtors Should Blog

Let's face it. In today's world, the majority of consumers find their ideal products, services, and service providers by way of the World Wide Web. And now, more than ever, real estate professionals need to find a way to distinguish themselves from the thousands of other agents in the area.

Blogging is fast becoming one of the most successful ways to quickly communicate information to web audiences. As a successful real estate broker, existing and prospective clients want to know that their real estate professional is aware of the most innovative and modern techniques used to help them buy or sell their homes.

Put all of this information together, and you've probably figured out that real estate professionals need to blog. Oddly enough, although some Realtors have adopted blogging, the vast majority have ignored the benefits and failed to adopt blogging for their businesses.

Get it together!

So why exactly should real estate agents blog? Here are 7 great reasons:

1. Wider and More Efficient Marketing. Agents should start a blog as a marketing tool, not just for themselves (no one wants to continuously read information about a self-promoting, pompous agent) and not just for their listings (seriously, listings are available everywhere), but as a means for agents to "show their stuff" to clients and prospective clients. The Internet is available to millions of people, and by publishing a blog, Realtors are able to reach a very wide audience, very quickly, with a single blog post.

2. Networking. A blog allows Realtors to meet other bloggers and business professionals. This could lead to the exchange of valuable information and tips between the real estate professionals and bloggers and provide referral opportunities for both parties. In addition, blogging could allow real estate professionals the opportunity to meet other professionals in related fields (such as mortgage lenders, home inspectors, and real estate attorneys).

3. New Skills. By adopting blogging, Realtors begin to learn about Web 2.0, social networks, and blog software. In addition, blogging requires research to some extent. By writing for their audiences, Realtors are also learning new information that will be helpful to them in their profession.

4. Better Perception. Realtors that blog are perceived as being more of an "expert" in the field as compared to other real estate professionals who don't blog.

5. Visibility. Blogging allows Realtors to have more visibility as a blog is available to readers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

6. Increased business. When people search for a real estate agent online, they are likely to just do a search in search engine such as Google for an agent in the area. Once that prospective client runs across an agent's blog demonstrating their expertise as well as their web presence, those prospects are more likely to seek that agent's services.

7. Good for the environment. Yes, as an added bonus, there are environmental benefits to blogging. By blogging, real estate professionals reduce the need to send out information to clients and prospective clients via newsletters and other print ads. Realtors are able to reach a wider audience through more efficient means, which is great for the environment.
