"Walking on Sunshine", Katrina and the Waves. One of the most upbeat songs ever: "I'm walkin' on sunshine, and don't it feel good! Don't it feel good! don't it feel good... walkin' on sunshine!" This song will definitely put a bounce in your step and a smile on your face!
"I Feel Good", James Brown. A classic song that makes you want to dance even if you don't know how to dance. If you don't know the words, you can pretty much sing along because it says "I feel good" about 9,000 times. (Followed by some awesome sax.) It's fun, it's uplifting- it's the quintessential "feel good" song.
"Running Up That Hill", Kate Bush. Placebo re-did this song and turned it into a funky bummer, which is a total disservice to the original. Listen to the original Kate Bush version for a strong, inspiring pick-me-up. She sings a really soulful version. When she belts out, "If only I could be running up that road, be running up that hill with no problems", you really think you can conquer anything.
"No Way Out (Heaven's Trail)", Tesla. Get pumped up with some Tesla! (OK, I'm probably showing my age, but hey, this song stands the test of time.) "I'm on a slick trip, yeah, I'm always ready to kick ass. Up on the stage I'm on a rage, yeah I'm having the time of my life... And what a sweet, sweet life it is..." (guitar riff). If you've never understood the appeal of '80's headbanging, this song will explain it.
"Let It Be", The Beatles. This song has a soothing wisdom that gives you sense that everything's going to be OK. "When I find myself in times of trouble, mother Mary comes to me, speaking words of wisdom, let it be..... And when the night is cloudy, there is still a light, that shines on me, shine until tomorrow, let it be." Good words, and one of my all-time favorite songs.
"Hold on for One More Day", Wilson Phillips. A very inspirational song for people going through a difficult time. "I know that there is pain, but you hold on for one more day, and you break free from the chains....Don't you know things can change? Thing's go your way, if you hold on for one more day." It's really quite beautiful, and sometimes just what we need to hear.
"Anything You Can Do", lyrics by Irving Berlin. Fun stuff! From the musical "Annie Get Your Gun", this song is a real confidence boost. "Anything you can do, I can do better. I can do anything better than you. Anything you can be, I can be greater. Sooner or later I'm greater than you." It's a duet where they argue, "No, you can't. Yes, I can." It's hilarious. If you need a little confidence boost and a great big smile, listen to "Anything You Can Do".
