As far as the causes of depression there is not one single thing that you can pinpoint as the lone cause. In fact there are many things that cause depression and what may cause depression for one person will have no effect on another person.
Depression is a feeling of hopelessness, loneliness, and sometimes if the condition is severe enough, you can have repeated thoughts of suicide.
Many people think that depression is a feeling, mood, attitude or state of mind but this is not correct. Depression can be brought on by changes in the brain. The brain functions as a computer sending signals to the other parts of the body thereby allowing the body to function at a normal efficient rate. If these signals are disrupted and the messages or signals between brain cells are not received then one falls into a state of depression.
Causes of depression
If you have a major life changing event such as losing a job you can develop symptoms of depression. Other events that can trigger depression are an insurmountable amount of debt. People who end relations or have deaths in the family can end up with depression.
Some people have depression because it's hereditary. It can be passed on from generation to generation.
Someone with a negative outlook on life can develop symptoms of depression
Disease and sickness can bring on depression. Having a disease can bring on feelings of hopelessness, or a victim mentality. You can become very pessimistic.
Anxiety disorders can bring on a bout with depression. Other illnesses can also contribute to this end.
Many people who have experienced some type of abuse in their life, early on, will develop depression later on. A child that has been sexually or emotionally abused is definitely a candidate for depression years later.
You can experience depression from major events such as moving across country, or even right after a wedding. It's not always bad things that cause depression.
Men don't become depressed as frequently as women do primarily because of hormonal changes that take place with women.
