7 Things You Need for a Perfect Vacation

John Barnett
No matter what the time of year, a vacation can do wonders for you mentally, physically, psychologically, and in some cases, spiritually. The benefits of travel are numerous, but not without downsides. Travel leaves you vulnerable to stress, foreign diseases, monetary dangers, and potential threats to your life. For both your safety and comfort, here are seven things you should never forget to bring on a vacation.

1. First Aid Kit.

Let's be realistic- you never know what's going to happen. Traveling to a mountainous region? Sharp rocks and rigid earth await. Going some place icy? Slips and falls aren't far behind. A well-stocked first aid kit can make all the difference when help and home are far off. Make sure you pack plenty of bandages, antiseptic, any medication you require, a flare gun, and a few blankets. You'll be glad you did.

2. A Digital Camera.

Memories are the closest thing to Heaven that we have as humans. Remembering friends and family, even when they are gone, is a cognitive ability that some of us would sooner die than give up. However, sometimes your memories need a little help. Make sure to always pack a reliable camera and an SD card to capture any precious memories.

3. Flashlights & Batteries.

These often go hand in hand. Packing some extra batteries along with a flashlight can make any unforeseen troubles much more bearable. Did the rental car encounter a problem? That extra light could mean the difference between having to wait in the rain or figuring out the problem yourself. Lost with the sun fading? You'll feel much better with that source of light and extra power in your pocket.

4. A Portable Game System.

Let's face it, not all aspects of a vacation are fun. Sometimes you need to relax and keep yourself entertained. Maybe the bus ride or plane trip is taking much longer than you expected. Stuck at the hotel with nothing on TV and no swimming pool? You'll be thanking your Nintendo DS and the games you brought along. Fight off boredom with Mario Kart DS, Disgaea DS, Super Scribblenauts, Clubhouse Games, or your favorite Pokemon DS title. For those with a Sony PSP or Nintendo Gameboy Advance, you'll have plenty to choose from as well.

5. A Map.

Despite the advantages and developments of our day and age, you won't always be near the internet. It's times like this that people most appreciate the little things- like candles, breathing space, and maps. The map has always been a loyal friend to mankind. This simple piece of paper with recorded cities and landmarks could save you from disaster on your next vacation. Just make sure it's the right map of your destination!

6. Bottled Water.

Some people fail to realize how important it is that you have access to freshwater. Not every vacation spot has water suitable to drink- Mexico and Africa come to mind. In order to keep your body safe and healthy, make sure you pack plenty of bottles of water. You don't want to be sick at the hotel the whole time, do you?

7. Proper Clothing

In our excitement and anticipation, we can sometimes forget how different the climate can be at our vacation destination. You should always dress and pack appropriately for the region you'll be visiting. Warm or cold, tight or loose- you need the proper apparel to abate weather, cultural boundaries, and health hazards. Make sure you thoroughly research your destination and prepare accordingly.
