Removing paint from hardwood floors is not complicated if you have the right tool and the basic knowledge on how to go about it. Here are some few tips to follow:

Things you will need:

  • Paint Remover (Goof Off Graffiti Remover works well)
  • Soft Cloth or rag
  • Heat Gun
  • Facemask
  • Sander
  • Blade Tool
  • Cleaner
  • Putty knife
  • Brush
1. The first option to try is a paint remover like the Goof Off. Apply small amount of Goof Off on a piece of cloth then rub it to the affected area. It this does not work then apply sparingly directly to the area. You can use a Teflon pad to loosen the paint and marks. Use a damp clean cloth to remove the residue. Be sure to wear protective mask when using some chemicals to remove paints as they contain vapor which are harmful and they can irritate your eyes. Follow with extreme caution instructions on the label and if possible check the MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets) for some precautionary measures. If the spray comes in contact with your eyes, immediately flush with water and continue to flush for at least 15 minutes. If inhaled, move to an area with fresh air. If breathing becomes difficult, seek medical attention.

2. Another option you can try is with rubbing alcohol. Soak a rag in rubbing alcohol and rub it on the stained area and use a dry cloth to clean it off.

3. If you have a heat gun, you can use it to soften the paint then use a putty knife to take the paint off. Use a damp soft cloth to remove the residue.

4. Use a mild cleaner if you need further cleaning to be done but not abrasives that could do more damage to the floor. Don't let the solution stay on the wood for a long period of time so wipe with a damp soft cloth immediately.

5. You can also us a sander to remove the paint from the wood floor. Sanding machine are available at rental shops. Depending on the type of sanding required you can either use a handheld one or commercial type from the rental place. Use a cloth to clean the area in between sanding.

6. You can also use a blade tool to scrape off the paint from floor then use a soft cloth with a mild cleaner. Use a dry cloth to clean it after the application of the cleaner.

7. When you are applying water to hardwood floor, take note that the water can cause the wood to expand so always dry out areas that has been subjected with water.
