A video on YouTube shows a group of five 7 year old girls dancing to Beyonce's "Single Ladies" for what appears to be a dance recital performance. From their outfits to their moves, the video calls into question how far is too far when it comes to children and sexuality.
The dance features little girls, wearing cropped bustier-type tops, hot shorts and knee-high boots. The girls proceed to 'club dance' to Beyonce's song "Single Ladies" - and several seductive poses and moves come into play.
The whole video reeks of a pedophilia heyday - little girls acting like grownups.
Several parents are shocked at the routine - although they all agree that the girls can dance like nothing they've ever seen. They're pointing fingers at parents - "What were those parents thinking?" "Who would let their child do that?". And yes, parents are ultimately accountable for what their children do. But keep in mind that most dance classes are closed off to parents, and some cover up viewing windows to 'surprise' the parents when they're practicing for a recital. The reality is that the parents trusted the dance school and instructor to put together a good routine for their girls - and they probably had no idea it would end up like it did.
When watching the video, one has to wonder what the dance teacher was thinking. The outfits, the PG-13 (at least) moves - for 7 year olds? Yes, it's a great routine - for adults! The routine makes those little girls look like adults - and act like them as well.
There are others who aren't phased at all by the video. It calls into question what would get their attention if these 7 year olds wearing spandex lingerie, heavy makeup and shaking their body like a 20 year old doesn't even make them take a second look.
There is no doubt these girls weren't traumatized by the dance. They looked like they were having a wonderful time. They are amazing dancers - incredible talent. But the girls would have been that happy doing any dance - they didn't have to do something so mature in order to have a good time and show off their talent.
Whether or not you're offended by the video, most can agree that better choices could have (and should have) been made. No one is disputing the girls' talent - nor are they in any way blaming the girls (if they disagree with the dance routine).
Maybe this is a wake-up call. As parents, we have to be involved and aware of our children. We need to keep them children for as long as we can - we all grow up, there's no point in rushing it. Let them be innocent as long as possible.

Post a CommentI know its a realization that kids dance that way but what kind of parent would have their "CHILD" in a contest like that, dressed that way? Jeans and a shirt with accessories would've been ok...even if they danced the same way, at least it wouldn't have been as raunchy.
