70,000 Black & Decker Toasters Recalled

If you own a toaster made by Black & Decker®, your toaster may have been recalled. Over 70,000 Infrawave™ Toasters sold under the Black & Decker label are affected.

These toasters can overheat and risk causing a fire. If you own a Black & Decker® Infrawave™ toaster, you should unplug it immediately. There is a circuit board inside of this toaster than can catch on fire.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Black & Decker® announced details of this recall in a recent press release.

Applica Consumer Products Inc., of Miramar, Florida is the distributor. The have already received two reports of these units catching fire. One of the fires damaged the cabinets and countertop of a kitchen.

Which model is affected and how to identify it
This recall only affects the Black & Decker® Infrawave™ toaster model ST2000. Like many other products that have been recalled in the past, it was made in China.

This toaster is designed to toast two-slices of bread. It has a digital display that is underneath the lever than you push to lower bread into the it. It has stainless steel trim, and the Black & Decker® brand name appears on the very top.

If you're unsure which model of Black & Decker® toaster you own, turn it over and look on the bottom. You'll find the model number printed on a small plate that is part of the toaster. Only toaster model ST2000 is affected by this recall.

Other toasters made by Black & Decker® do not have this problem.

Where it was sold and it's cost
The recalled Black & Decker® Infrawave™ toaster was sold at both discount stores and home improvement stores nationwide. It was sold between March 2007 and November 2007. It sold for approximately $50.

What to do if you own a Black & Decker® Infrawave™ Toaster
The first thing you should do is unplug this toaster to avoid the risk of a fire in your home. Then contact Applica to get a refund since it was recalled.

Contact Applica Consumer Products, Inc. to get a refund. You can either register with Applica at a special website that they have established to handle recalls for this toaster, or you can contact them by phone.

You can let Applica know that you have owned this toaster by registering at their website, which is located HERE. After registering, you can check the status of your refund by clicking HERE. You can also call them at (800) 556-9439.

Even though this toaster has been recalled, there have not been any reports of any injures caused by the Black & Decker® Infrawave™ toasters.
