The long-awaited release of the seventh and final installment of the Harry Potter series was announced today. The book, titled Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is scheduled to be released on July 21, 2007, just days after the scheduled premier of the fifth Harry Potter movie. It looks as though July 2007 will be a month of excitement and anticipation for the millions of Harry Potter fans around the world.

The title of book seven was released towards the end of 2006, creating a stir in the "Muggle" world in regards to suspected plot lines and predictions. Certainly, the world of Harry Potter has been encompassing children and adults alike since the release of the first book, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. J.K. Rowling, the author and creator of the most beloved literary character of the present day, began her first novel more than a decade ago. Now world-famous, Rowling hasn't let the fame and influence of money affect the quality of her work. Each book is kept tightly under wraps until the date of release and Rowling has stated in numerous interviews that she can not be compelled to give away the plot. In addition, Rowling has also refused to promise a healthy, breathing Harry at the end of the series, a refusal that has caused more than a little anxiety in her huge reader base. With a title as ominous as "The Deathly Hallows" it doesn't look like this book will be easy on Harry, or the readers.

Book 7 has been available for pre-order at several retail locations and now advanced orders for pick-up on the date of release are being posted on most major bookseller's websites. It goes without saying that establishments like Barnes & Noble will hosting midnight release parties and every store across the country will be overflowing with Potter fans young and old. Never has a book or author brought so vast a demographic of readers together as J.K. Rowling has. It has truly been centuries since an author's work was so highly anticipated that release dates were announced with such excitement and anticipation. Charles Dickens' work was published by volume and each volume was released as he began writing the next. While London waited, Dickens wrote. It's taken nearly two centuries for that kind of excitement about a book to be rekindled.

On July 21, 2007, millions of people will finally hold the most highly awaited book of our time in their hands. The anticipation and the excitement will all culminate on that one July day. After that, the excitement will dissipate and we'll know how it all ends. It's over, it's done.
