TURN YOUR KID'S ROOM INTO "THE" PLACE TO BE
1) It is important to include a functional light where you child will be using it the most. This usually takes the shape of a desk lamp. Giving a child a comfortable place to work, will encourage them to take their homework more seriously. The idea to give them a space they WANT to use.
2) If you need to include a night light for children who have problems with the dark, this is a great time to be creative. Night lights are very readily available in most of the themes you could ever imagine. This is a much more soothing use of lighting.
3) To give your child lighting for safety reasons, consider touch lights in strategic places between your child's room and the bathroom. This saves a great deal of electricity if you usually leave on the bathroom light. This gives you both security and can cut down on night time accidents.
4) One essential lighting resource is to utilize a ceiling fan with a light. This gives enough general light for most activities that would take place in your kid's bedroom. This type of lighting is easily controlled by a light switch. It is a good starting point of any room.
5) Another great idea for creating a comfortable reading nook is to place a wall light above the chair with a canopy above it. This is great in primary colors for a boys room, and adorable with tulle for a princess room. The canopy not only looks unique, but it focuses the light.
6) Hanging Christmas lights along the ceiling can give a starry night effect. This is great in any room to transition from day to night. It also goes great with an outer space theme. Another cute idea to compliment this look is the stick on stars that can be applied to the ceiling. Lights can also give a tropical look if used along with string lights. You can wrap these lights around artificial trees for a neat effect also.
7) A great way to make a princess bed is to wrap tiny white Christmas lights around several layers of tulle and create the canopy effect above your daughter's bed. This is also true of making a little archway in her room using the same steps.
8) Hanging paper lanterns from main areas of the room is a very stylish way to modernize the room. These are very inexpensive and user friendly. If you select the big giant white ball lanterns it will give the room an up to date look.
Remember that when using lighting in a child's room, clip any loose wires to the walls. Another good idea is to use the inexpensive outlet covers. You will also want to be careful not to leave any exposed bulbs that could be burned by little hands. Always research any fire safety information included with lighting products that you buy. You can never be too careful with your most prized possessions.
