1. Make a popcorn garland. String and popcorn is all that is needed, which most people already have somewhere in the home. Pop the popcorn, allow it to cool down and get stale. Once cooled, give each children a threaded needle and show them how to thread the popcorn. If you have children's glue and glitter, the children can sprinkle glitter on the popcorn for an even better look.
2. Holiday bow hunt. This is always a fun thing to do, especially when it comes to small children. Since it is holiday time, we all have left over bows lying around the house somewhere. What better way to use them by making children happy. Have the kids stay in one room while you place them strategical around the house, or even outside the house. Just like an Easter egg hunt, let the kids start searching for the holiday bows. The one who gets the most, get a small prize. (cupcake or candy bar).
3. Holiday coloring activity. Children love to color, and you can find thousands of holiday coloring pages online for free. Just type in the words "holiday coloring pages", and you will see an endless list. Print out how ever many pages per child you choose. Set them up with crayons, markers, and color pencils. Once they are done, have them show and tell their coloring pages off to everyone attending.
4. Pine cone decorating activity. If you live anywhere where the pine trees grow. Then you know during the holiday season you can find pine cone's all over the ground. Gather a bag full and let the kids start decorating them. They can decorate them with children's glue and glitter. If you do not have glitter, you can use cupcake sprinkles. You can even use white icing to make the pine cones look as if there is snow on them. Fun activity for children of all ages.
5. Decorating the house for the holidays. Since you already have the decorations for the house, whether they are inside or outside. Why not turn it into a holiday activity for the children. Give each child one specific area all to them-self. Once they have finished decorating, take a picture of them with their masterpiece and place into a holiday themed photo frame.
6. Holiday present swap. This is great for children who love to give their friends gift. Nothing to buy, since we use what we already have. Have the children choose one thing of theirs that they want to give to one of their friends. Make sure it all evens out so that all the children get one or two things each. Let them wrap their own presents or decorate the presents as they wish.
7. Christmas tree skirt making. Using an old blanket, sheet or piece of fabric. Allow the children to decorate it with glue, glitter, stickers, tree clippings, and cut outs that they have made. The children will enjoy seeing their masterpiece under the tree while they are waiting for Santa Claus to arrive.
8. Winter window decorating activity. With non permanent markers, allow the children to draw holiday illustrations on the windows that are visible. The kids will definitely enjoy doing this, since most of the time they are not allowed to draw on things such as windows. They will also enjoy seeing their creations through-out the holiday season.
