The suggested activities and things to do during a blizzard are just a few ideas to try. The key to beating blizzard boredom is to be prepared ahead of time, so at the first hint of a pending storm, gather up supplies and anything else you may want on hand in case the blizzard hits home.
Have a Spa Day
Nothing beats an at-home spa day when the winds are howling outside your window. An at-home spa day will provide relaxation and pampering on a snowy day. The basic supplies needed for an at-home spa day are minimal and some bath salts or bubble bath, a facial mask, manicure kit, pedicure supplies, and even a deep conditioning treatment for hair are easy to find. Take the opportunity for some spa day pampering while stuck inside. If you have an at-home partner, some massage oil and a long back rub can be another way to beat blizzard boredom.
Throw Your Own Party
Don't get stuck inside without a bottle of your favorite wine or adult beverage. If you have neighbors close by who can brave walking through a few feet of snow, call them up and invite them over. A blizzard party can be spontaneous fun for all. Instead of sitting at a desk at the office, you can socialize all day and have a few glasses of wine or beer. If you really want to step it up. pull out a few board games, like Taboo, Trivial Pursuit, or other group adult games.
Have a Movie Marathon
Blizzard days are the best time to pull out that DVD collection that you got for a Christmas gift last year but never had the time to watch. Pop some microwave popcorn and grab your Snuggie before starting a movie marathon. If you have an accumulation of DVR shows taped, now is the time to watch and delete after viewing to clear DVR space.
Start a Video Game Party
Remember when you were 13 years old and holiday break meant hours of endless video gaming? Blizzard days are a great time to pull out the video game system and mindlessly enjoy a few hours of video gaming.
Cook for the Month
A cooking blitz can be fun for those who like to cook but don't have the time on normal days. Test out a few new recipes or make old favorites and store them in the freezer. Frozen homemade meals will make the rest of the winter easier when you can come home and heat up some comfort food for dinner. If you're not as ambitious, consider baking a batch of Nestle Tollhouse cookies or cooking a special blizzard day dinner.
Plan a Vacation
Somewhere in the world it is sunny and warm. It just happens to not be in your snowy town. Instead of grumbling about the wind chill, get online and search sites such as travelocity or orbitz to find last minute vacation deals or ideas for your next vacation. Internet research for travel can be a great way to beat the winter blues. Even if you don't actually follow through with real travel plans, pretend vacations can provide a mental escape from the long winter days.
Clean out the Closets
One way to improve your fashion wardrobe is to clean out the old clothes stuffed in the back of the closet and make room for new ones. Grab some hefty bags and go through the closets for anything that can be donated to a local charity. Many shelters and domestic violence programs accept toiletries, so be sure to peek in the bathroom vanity for anything that can be donated. Get rid of the hotel soaps and sample shampoos and give them to a good cause. Cleaning may seem like a boring way to spend a blizzard day, but it can feel good to clean out the old and get organized. It's likely that this task is one you never seem to find the time for on ordinary days, so a blizzard day can be ideal for closet overhauls.
Catch up with Old Friends
Life gets busy and adults often get caught up in the chaos of work and family responsibilities. A blizzard day can give you the chance to reconnect with old friends. Since you can't leave the house, pick up the phone and call a friend you haven't had the time to talk to lately. Look up old friends on Facebook or go through your cell phone contact list and spend the day catching up with friends who you have lost touch with.
