8 Kid-Friendly Bag Lunches Your Kids Will Eat

Lunches Your Kids Can Take to School

One of the biggest problems I had with my daughter when she went to public school is that she refused to eat school lunches. I would try to pack her lunches too, but she wouldn't eat very many lunch-bag friendly foods. She is no longer in public school (as she is homeschooled) and can eat what she wants, when she wants. Still, I thought it was a good idea to interview her to help parents get a good idea of what could be packed in a lunch box that a child would actually eat. Here is a list of 8 kid-friendly bag lunches that she gave me.

Crispy peanut butter bars may seem decadent and will make kids think they are getting a special treat. Just don't tell them that they actually have a bit of nutritional value. Make these just like you would make rice crispy treats, only add 1/4 cup of peanut butter before stirring.

Ant on a log is a very healthy meal that is great for packing in the lunch box. It can be made with peanut butter, cream cheese, or cheese spread depending on which the child likes. Spread the cream choose or peanut butter on celery stalks and place raisins in a straight line in the spread. Wrap them in saran wrap and put them in the lunch box.

Turkey wraps are a neat twist on the same old turkey sandwich. Just take a soft tortilla, and spread on mustard and place a few thing turkey slices on it. Roll it up and you have turkey wraps.

Ham and Cheese roll ups are very similar to turkey wraps. Place a few slices of ham on a tortilla and sprinkle on some shredded cheese. Roll these up and put in saran wrap. You can send condiments on the side in packages or small containers.

Pigs n blankets will be eaten by kids, whether they are hot out of the oven or lukewarm. Make these in the morning, and put them in an insulated bag and they will make them disappear.

Chicken Egg Rolls are a little more difficult to make, hence the recipe link. However, if made in the morning, they will stay warm for several hours and your child will greatly enjoy these delicious treats.

Corn dog cupcakes: If kids like corn dogs, they will love corn dog cupcakes. This is a recipe that you can get your kids involved in. Mix up a batch of cornbread. Cut up some hot dogs in small pieces. Then pour the mix into cup cake pans and press the hot dogs into the mixture. Bake and wrap for a fun lunch box treat.

Grilled Cheese: This is very easy to make, and if wrapped correctly, it will hold until lunchtime. As a kid, I could not resist grilled cheese and I still have a hard time resisting it today. It goes great with a cup of tomato soup, which you can put in a thermos, but stands on its own pretty well too.
