8 Movies that Could Stand to be Remade

Erin L
Everyone complains about remakes. But what if the power to remake movies was used for good and not evil? Could a remake improve movies that should have been great but weren't instead of disrespecting the memories of the great movies?

Xanadu
Team a popular singer and actress with a middle aged veteran of dance comedies and a sensitive but hot artist type relatively unknown actor. Set the story in an ice rink. Keep the ELO music.

Nail Gun Massacre
The idea of a masked, wisecracking killer is good but the shot on video look is bad. Redo this on film and tie up some of the loose plot strings and you've got yourself a modern grindhouse classic.

Bonfire of the Vanities
We were promised a good movie out of this much-hyped story! Reduce the studio's involvement and get a lead actor who plays well with others.

North
I thought this was a great idea for a movie: a little boy goes on a search for the perfect parents. It could have been a fantasy movie like a Roald Dahl adaptation. North was adapted from a novel too, by the author. Get a new screenwriter and try again.

Showgirls
This should have been either a gratuitous film or a serious one. Pick one direction and try again. The fact that it is a cult classic means it had potential.

Heathers
For some reason this film has not held up, although it was great when it came out. The humor still works but the dialogue seems dated. Let Diablo Cody rewrite it.

The Sentinel
The Sentinel is a scary movie. Unfortunately it got lost in the shuffle of demonic horror stories in the 70s and has now fallen out of favor because the monsters at the end of the movie were played by people with real facial deformities. Better to remake horror movies that were almost classics than movies that were classics.

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun
As in Heathers, there is nothing wrong with the original other than that it is dated because the story depends on the dance, music and clothing of the time.

Bonfire of the Vanities wasn't bad - not as good as Wolfe's book, but OK...hard to do in the current economic climate, perhaps. Bill Hurt probably should have had the lead. DeCaprio should probably have it now. The problem here is the original was fairly faithful to the novel, so why? But of course, we always need another grindhouse classic. Neat piece.
