8 of "Oprah's" Most Talked About Shows

Oprah Winfrey started her talk show in 1986. In September of 2011 the last episode of the show will air. Oprah has had so many shows' that made an impact on viewers and still stay in their memories. Today I will cover eight of Oprah's most talked about shows.

First Episode - September 8, 1986 - "How to Marry the Man or Woman of Your Dreams"

Oprah Winfrey's first episode of her talk show "Oprah" was about how to marry the man or woman of your dreams. Back then Oprah was not able to land the celebrities and the interviews she is well-known for today. The shows premise is those early days were about everyday issues and everyday people. She still covers the every day issues with ordinary people to this day along with all the big names opening up to Oprah in ways they may not with others.

Mega-Weight Loss- 1988

This episode is the one that received the highest ratings of all time. Oprah entered the stage, pulling a wagon behind her loaded with 67 pounds of fat. She was wearing a pair of designer jeans and was thin after dieting and losing 67 lbs. She looked amazing.

Michael Jackson Interview - February 10, 1993

After 14 years of refusing interviews, Michael Jackson let Oprah into Neverland Ranch for an exclusive interview. The show was a 90 minute special. At the beginning of the interview Oprah told the viewers that Jackson had agreed to answer questions on any facet of his life. They talked about his childhood, the abuse he experienced by his father, how he missed out on much of his childhood because he was always working. They also discussed the rumors surrounding him at the time such as having the bones of the Elephant Man, sleeping in a chamber, sex, plastic surgery and much more. The interview let fans see another side to Jackson.

The Angels Network - 1997

The year was 1997 and an amazing idea an organization was about to surface. On this episode Oprah asked viewers to join her in using their lives to help improve the life of others. This eventually turned into a charity to encourage and help people around the world to make a difference in the lives of others. Oprah's Angel Network works around the globe helping others.

Oprah's Favorite Things - 2002

In 2002 Oprah started showing viewers her favorite things. This episode has been the most watched episode every year since. It is aired around Thanksgiving and the audience of that first episode and every one since are always thrilled and delighted. The reason for this is that everyone in the audience gets to take home everything that Oprah shares has her favorite things.

In 2002 there were four categories of items. The categories were food, body and beauty care, books, music, home and high tech. Some of the items were Key Lime Pie, Holiday Tin of Garret's Popcorn, BlissLabs Glamour Gloves and Glamour Gel. Dream Time Foot Cozys, Karen Neuburger Pajamas and Socks, Everyday Grace by Marianne Williamson, Johnny Mathis The Christmas Album, Four-in-One Camera, Samsung mobile phone/camera, Wafer-Thin CD Systemand much, much moor.

First Great Car Giveaway - September 13, 2004

Oprah is well known for giving away awesome gifts to her studio audience. However, no one could have guessed what the lucky audience in 2004 was about to receive. There were 276 people in the audience that day. Oprah called 11 women on the stage and announced they were brand new cars. Everyone in the audience received a gift box and Oprah told them one box contained a key and that person would receive a car. The crowd went crazy when everyone had a key. The entire audience got a new 2005 Pontiac.

Tom Cruise Jumps on Oprah's Couch - May 19, 2005

No one will forget when Tom Cruise appeared on Oprah's show to discuss his new movie "War of The Worlds." The movie discussion was not the main event of the show however. Tom Crusie and Katie Holmes had started dating and the talk turned to his new love. Cruise started shouting about his love for Holmes, and then he leaped on Oprah's couch and starting dancing and jumping around. Oprah looked stunned as Cruise went crazy shouting about his love. The news, web, and late night TV latched onto the stunning performance by Cruise. Many wondering if it was all hype or if he had simply gone crazy.

Lisa Marie Presley Talks about Michael Jackson after his death - October 21, 2010

A little over a year after the death of The King of Pop, Lisa Marie Presley goes on Oprah to talk about her ex-husband and how she is handling his death. Presley told Oprah that upon hearing of Jackson's death she felt real honest to goodness shock. She said she was floored, honestly floored. She also stated that all of her indifference and detachment that she worked so hard to achieve over the years had just gone in to the bowels of hell and she felt gutted. You could see the pain on her face as she admitted she didn't realize all of this until he was gone. She also discussed the similarities between his death and the death of father, Elvis Presley. Presley said this was the one and only interview she would give about the subject.
