8 Superfoods that Help You Fight Fat and Maintain Your Ideal Weight

Elle Hunt
For about a year now, I have been trying my hardest to eat healthier and to exercise more. So far I have kept on board...for the most part; there has been a time or two where I get these cravings for sugar or meat. Sugar wins out over meat pretty much most days. On the regular, I only eat meat maybe once or twice a year aside from organically grown chicken. My six meals a day (three meals and two snacks) consist of energy boosting, fiber giving, and nutritionally sound items to help you lose and maintain your weight. So far I have only been successful at maintaining due to my not having a job and having to put my gym membership on hold...but that's another story. I have been walking more lately though but that I have learned is not enough. I will list for you some foods you can incorporate into your diet easily and with a lot of flavor. I haven't listed some obvious item like berries, olive oil, or pasta (because you can buy gluten free pasta that is good for you) but I was hoping my readers would have some common sense and already know what is good for their bodies and what is not even if they eat at Mickey D's every day.

Nuts-They build muscle and reduce cravings! Almonds, pecans, walnuts, cashews...they're all good for you. Who doesn't like 'em? If you absolutely do not like them, you can hide them in your breakfast with fruit or grind them up in a smoothie. I personally incorporate my nuts of choice for the month (I switch off so I don't become bored with any one) with my morning instant oatmeal with some frozen fruit. Because number one: I cannot stand around waiting for oatmeal in the pot to be ready. And number two because I never eat fresh fruit in time before it spoils. Amazingly I'm not even hungry until sometimes lunchtime (it really depends on how many calories I'm burning between those two meals). Try it sometime. I take it to work sometimes for lunch and have people commenting on the fact that it smells like fruit cobbler but even better, it even tastes like it too! But of course it is much healthier.

Beans-Since I don't eat meat I have to eat beans to replace protein. They also help you build muscle, beans also help with digestion and they help you burn fat. I always save beans for dinner and make them with rice and maybe have a salad on the side with just lettuce and olive oil for dressing and ok I will toss in a tomato or two to give it that nice color and flavor. Among several health related issues, beans help fight obesity and colon cancer and since both my parents are overweight and both have some type of cancer; these are my biggest things for my health. I have learned to love beans in all its variety from making different kinds of soup to eating them in chili. I hope you will learn to love them as much as I do. They are so filling too! You will not go hungry eating beans I guarantee.

Leafy Greens-they help with the aging process but also with skin issues. They also help with obesity and cancer along with beans. It is so easy to incorporate a little side salad into a meal or two; it's so light you will hardly know you ate it! But of course if you add tons of stuff into the salad like feta cheese and heavy salad dressing you will definitely notice and appreciate.

Dairy-This one is a no-no for me since I am lactose intolerant. Of course I could and I do use lactose free varieties of this. I love yogurt and I only buy one kind or I try, I buy the rich and creamy yogurt at Trader Joe's Market. I buy this or I don't eat yogurt. It has been a long time since I've eaten eggs or had time to prepare them to eat; eggs are not really a staple in my diet anyway. I buy only soy or rice milk, rice milk is better for you and I really can't tell you why at this point because quite simply I forgot. Or if I'm in a hurry and forget to buy that kind of milk I simply pick up a carton of organic milk. Is there any dairy I forgot? Oh yes Cheese. Cheese is not a part of my diet either; I really don't like it real or lactose free. I'll eat it if it's a part of something else like a burrito but I won't add it into something myself except maybe a taco salad made with soybean meat.

Instant oatmeal-Mmmmm...I absolutely love this item because it saves you time and there is no plain instant oatmeal or at least none that I know of. The instant's I get are full of flavor and some kind of dried fruit. And like I said above, you can add nuts and additional fruit with it to power you through the day. Oh and I should list the nutritional benefits huh? It gives you an energy boost and helps fight cholesterol. Did I also mention that it saves you time in the morning? Only two minutes in the microwave!

Eggs-Helps you burn fat and builds muscle. I eat eggs but not every day like most weight conscious people. When I have the time to cook I would definitely eat them but I pretty much don't have time to even think for myself sometimes.

Peanut Butter-I cannot say enough about this superfood!! It is sooooo good and sooooo good for you. Packed with protein, PB also helps with cardiovascular disease. Slather it on a piece of toast or just have a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Decide between creamy or crunchy first of course. I forgot to mention this, and since I just made a smoothie I thought I would add this in. be a little recklass and add peanut butter into your special smoothie. Only the creamy kind please. So flipping good I swear! Fills you up like nothing else and is so good. That is if you like the stuff.

And lastly;

Whey-Keep this item stocked in your pantry if nothing else! Whey helps you fight the bulge if taken daily which you should. Sprinkle two teaspoons of it over your morning cereal or shake it up into your smoothie. It smells funny but it tastes so good when mixed with organic milk and some berries.
