Yes, there are more than just cotton fields in the state Mississippi. One place you won't find any cotton fields is Southaven. Southaven has almost tripled in size over the last ten years and now has a population of over forty thousand. It is located on the Mississippi-Tennessee border and just below Memphis. Here is a list of eight interesting and unique things located there.

The Desoto Family Civic Center

Among attractions located in Southaven, MS is the Desoto Civic Center. This complex is home to the River King hockey games. I know, who knew hockey would be popular in a town where it rarely gets below 20 degrees? The Civic Center also has a stage that that is available to rent. Desoto Family Theatre often performs there. The complex also has rooms for conventions.

Wiseguys

Wiseguys is a non-chain restaurant. What's unique about this place is that it's built into an old gutted out house. It serves Chicago style pizza and hotdogs and has some really great chili-cheese fries. This place is technically speaking in Horn Lake, MS but as it is only a few feet over the city border I'm including it here.

Southaven Cinema 6

There are two theatres in Southaven. The larger one is a Malco (Malco owns ninety percent of all movie theatres in the Memphis, TN area) and located off of Hwy 302. The smaller movie theatre is Southaven Cinema. It has two main advantages over its larger counterpart. One, it's quieter because less people go there, and two, it's cheaper. Matinee prices are still only five dollars. It's a much older facility and not as handicapped friendly. However, if you want to see horror movie without a throng of screaming teenagers, this is the place to go.

Disco tech

Disco tech buys, sells, and trades CDs, DVDs, and records. You can get some used DVDs in great condition for cheap. They are, also, the only place to buy records from if you don't want to venture into Memphis.

Bookhaven

Bookhaven is the book version of Disco tech. If you can't find something you are looking for there, they can usually order it. Even new items are sold at a discount. I've been getting the Twilight series from there for six bucks a book or less.

BNVS Apparel

BNVS is an independent woman's clothing store. It's mall style clothing for about half the price. They sell some really interesting blouses and dresses, as well as jewelry. The clothing reminds me of a mix between the New York Co. and Forever 21 stores.

Snowden Grove Park

Into baseball? Snowden Grove has seventeen baseball fields. Seventeen. Why does Southaven need that many baseball fields? I really don't know, but they have them. They are often home to the Mississippi State little league tournaments held during the summer months.

6205 Old Getwell Road

Southaven, MS 38671

Avellino's

Get tired of the pizza delivery chains? Then you might like Avellino's for something different. They deliver pizza, subs, salads, and ravioli among other miscellaneous Italian things. The ravioli is pretty good and they make a really good grilled chicken pizza. They have tiramisu for desert. It's a small piece for the price you pay but it's really good.

Southaven, MS 38671

There is much more in Southaven as well. There's a small mall and slew of fast-food and sit down restaurants. There are also several parks, a decent size, newly built library, and a commuter campus of Northwest Mississippi Community College.
