8 Uses of a Pen Drive (flash Drive)

Why I like the Pendrive

Oh the handy pendrive, that sweet little thing and its uses that never runs out. First of all, it's a pen so it can write. (Trying to make a joke excuse me) So why don't we skim through the different uses of a pen drive, that is waiting for you to find out.

1. Data storage, data transfer and the most obvious reasons, but it doesn't end there.

2. The thing I like about some pen drives is their ability to be bootable devices, meaning on some pen drives I can install my operating system, so it's basically bringing my computer with me wherever I go, lighter than a laptop! And in most cases, it proves very useful when troubleshooting and/or fixing someone else's machines and my own, since I can boot the machine from my pendrive and diagnose the problem from there, like its next usage.

3. With operating system on them, software can be installed on pen/flash drives. And the most useful perhaps is the antivirus. Using this functionality I can ensure that my own pendrive is clean and as for cleaning crashed PCs, it's not even a problem, I simply just plug it in, run the OS of the pendrive and check for fixes. Then if you have a pendrive, I say don't miss to install antivirus on it and other software like;

4. A media player, and it's no different than plugging an iPod

5. Encryption! You can use either your computer or the OS on your flash drive to encrypt your personal files for the major security reasons.

6. A Memory Card. Did you know that with a pendrive, most gaming consoles will allow you save your game, like PlayStation. And of all things it makes your saved game files pretty much accessible to your computer if you wanted to do some cheating on the game.

7. Besides it looks cool, it's not obtrusive to carry around like you would a laptop, and with an operating system it works almost the same.

8. Backup. Simply backing up your so important documents in the same computer, just under a file with the Windows Backup extension is not always enough. It's prudent you also keep another copy of either the backup file or the entire collection of your documents in a separate storage device like a pendrive. The advantage that it has than optical storage like DVDs for backup is that it is sturdier and much more easily accessible. With an optical storage backup you will need another machine to view your files, as making a bootable backup DVD is quite complicated.
